Some partnerships become part of your story. đź’ś

Spanish Workshop for Children first began bringing Spanish to Greene Towne Montessori School around 2000. After a long break, we were so happy to return in September 2025—and last week, we began another school year together.

We share a belief that children learn by doing, exploring, connecting and discovering. And that is exactly how we want them to experience Spanish, too.

Congratulations to the Greene Towne community on 60 years! đź’š

We’re so happy to be back.

¡Estamos listos! 💜

Age matters when we place children in a Spanish class—but it isn’t the only thing that matters.

A seven-year-old beginner and a seven-year-old who attended an immersion school have very different language needs, even though they are exactly the same age.

That’s why our teachers use differentiated instruction.

Within our small groups, we can adjust the support we provide, the questions we ask, the language we expect, and the way each child demonstrates understanding.

After more than 25 years of teaching Spanish to children, we know there is no single path to proficiency.

Our job is to meet children where they are—and keep moving them forward. 💜

Registration remains open in select classes in Blue Bell, Bryn Mawr, Philadelphia and online.

This week, some of our newest Spanish students are adults. đź’ś

And we are so excited to welcome them.

Learning Spanish as an adult can feel intimidating—especially if the last time you studied a language involved memorizing vocabulary lists and verb charts.

That's not where we begin.

We begin with communication.

How do I introduce myself?

How do I ask a question?

How do I understand what someone is saying to me?

How do I actually use what I'm learning?

Grammar matters. Vocabulary matters. But they become much more meaningful when there is a reason to communicate.

¡Bienvenidos a nuestros estudiantes adultos!

And yes—we still have opportunities for adults interested in learning Spanish with us.

Sometimes the most important learning in a Spanish immersion classroom looks like play.

A child follows “Ponlo arriba.” Another understands “¿Dónde está?” One word becomes two—and little by little, Spanish begins to make sense.

Our activities are playful, but they are never random. Every story, song, game and project helps children understand, respond and communicate in Spanish.

This isn’t simply Spanish exposure.

This is language development—and that difference matters. 💜

Registration remains open in Blue Bell, Bryn Mawr, Philadelphia and online.

The first week is behind us—and our classrooms are already beginning to feel like little communities. 💜

Children are learning routines, getting to know their teachers and classmates, hearing Spanish in meaningful situations, and beginning to understand more than they may even realize.

And one of the questions we hear every September is:

“Did we miss the beginning?”

No.

We intentionally teach in small groups and use differentiated instruction, so children can enter with different levels of Spanish experience and still be appropriately supported and challenged.

Beginners are welcome, and registration remains open.

Spanish comes alive here.

I was supposed to record a video today answering the question, “Is it too late to join?”

But then I received this video from Niosha—and honestly, I thought her story was much more meaningful than anything I could record. 💜

Niosha began Spanish Workshop for Children when she was only six years old. She continued learning with us until she graduated from high school.

That early beginning became an incredible language journey. She went on to major in Spanish at the University of Pittsburgh, and today, as a pre-medical student, she uses Spanish to connect with patients and participate in medical mission trips.

This is why we believe that Spanish is so much more than another activity on a child’s schedule. It is something they can carry with them into their education, their career, and the way they connect with the world.

And if you are still considering Spanish for your child: classes have begun, but it is not too late to join us. Registration remains open in programs with availability.

Thank you, Niosha, for sharing your beautiful journey with us. You truly made my day. đź’ś

Children do not all arrive with the same age, interests, confidence, or experience with Spanish.

A five-year-old beginner should not be taught in exactly the same way as a ten-year-old beginner—and a child with previous Spanish experience needs opportunities that continue to challenge them.

At Spanish Workshop for Children, our teachers use differentiated instruction to adjust the support, expectations, questions, and opportunities each child receives.

After more than two decades of teaching Spanish to children, we know that meaningful progress begins by seeing the individual child—not simply placing everyone in one broad group.

Not sure which class is right for your child? Send us a message. We will help you find the best place to begin. đź’ś

Your child does not need to know Spanish before walking into our classroom.

We do not expect children to understand long explanations or memorize lists of vocabulary. Our teachers make Spanish understandable through what children can see, touch, hear, and do.

With time, repetition, caring relationships, and meaningful experiences, Spanish begins to feel familiar—and children find the confidence to use it.

Beginners are welcome, and registration remains open. đź’ś

Today begins another year of helping children experience Spanish as something meaningful, joyful, and alive.

They do not need to understand every word on the first day. Our teachers use gestures, pictures, movement, repetition, stories, and familiar routines to help children make meaning.

Some children speak immediately. Some listen quietly. Some need time to feel comfortable.

We meet each child where they are—and help them move forward from there.

Tomorrow, our classrooms begin filling with stories, movement, creativity, conversation—and Spanish! ✨

Some children will be returning to a language they already know. Others will be hearing and using Spanish with us for the very first time.

Both belong here. đź’ś

Beginners are welcome, and registration remains open in Blue Bell, Bryn Mawr, Philadelphia, and online.
