PA's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), the Institute is a national leader in inclusive education, leadership development, assistive technology, and more. OUR HISTORY:
The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University is one of the sixty-seven University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service funded by the Administ
ration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Established in 1974, the Institute has mirrored the changes in the field of developmental disabilities, evolving into a model of self-determination and individualized supports in the community. During its early history the Institute provided extensive technical assistance and training to professionals in the field and later became nationally recognized for advocacy and research efforts centered on the closure of the Pennhurst Center. In the 1980's, the Institute began developing and evaluating support models for Pennsylvanians with disabilities and their families. Now located within the College of Education at Temple University, the Institute is a vibrant, diverse organization with more than 40 staff members, including students and is considered a national leader in leadership development, assistive technology, Disability Studies, justice for people with disabilities, policy analysis and inclusive education. Much of our success in reaching the community and our constituents can be attributed to our close partnerships with statewide advocacy and self-advocacy groups, centers for independent living, Pennsylvania's Developmental Disabilities Council, The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania, state government, specialized and generic service providers, the criminal justice system, and universities throughout Pennsylvania. The scope of work and dedication to our constituents continues to grow, touching more people with disabilities, families, communities, students, educators, employers and policy makers. Our more than 20 programs have an impact on people's lives throughout Pennsylvania, nationally and internationally. OUR VISION:
A society where all people are valued and respected, and where all people have the knowledge, opportunity and power to improve their lives and the lives of others. OUR MISSION:
The Institute on Disabilities leads by example, creating connections and promoting networks within and among communities so that people with disabilities are recognized as integral to the fabric of community life. College of Education and Human Development,

Check out the new article, "Here's the Nudge: Collaborative Support Networks to Improve Accessible Sexuality Education," by Nova McGiffert, coordinator of IOD's Healthy Sexuality Project, in the latest issue of The Resource.
NSVRC is committed to continuing the ongoing conversation about the intersection between disability and gender-based violence. For the theme of this issue of The Resource, we emphasize the systemic and cultural failures that make disabled populations face an increased risk of sexual violence. Disability is a broad spectrum, and members of that community come from a wide range of contexts and circumstances that add more complexity and nuance to that experience. This issue does not encompass the full diversity within disability nor does it address every way in which sexual violence can touch this community. We publish this edition of The Resource as just one of many steps we must take to ensure that the experiences of people with disabilities are prioritized and that the work of the sexual violence prevention and education field is built on a foundation of understanding, mutual respect, and a commitment to ensure the safety and dignity of all.
This edition is the third issue of The Resource delivered to readers in a fully digital format as an online magazine. For long-time readers, we hope The Resource online magazine continues to deliver articles and content from across the movement that add value to your work.
