We've been in love with Gritty since the day he arrived here in Philly, but today was our first Gritty Day at OHM to celebrate our beloved furry friend. The big guy came for a visit and brought some mango water ice to celebrate the home team's playoff run 🧡🧡

This past weekend we had our annual OHM Art Show and fundraiser, inviting our parents in to let loose, celebrate some amazing student created works of art and raise funds to support our financial aid efforts! This year's show, Take a Look, It's in a Book, took inspiration from our favorite early childhood literature, both classic and contemporary, fiction and non-fiction, as well as the art of illustration and book binding itself. This year's pieces were beautiful and some of the most diverse yet, incorporating printmaking, painting, photography, sculpture, weaving, embossing, book binding and so much more. The pics never do the art justice, but hopefully you can see the love and creativity that went into these outstanding pieces.

Even though our community knows where we stand, we feel that we must vocally acknowledge that our school is horrified by the treatment of our fellow citizens and immigrants, both documented and undocumented, and especially those of color, in Minneapolis and across the country at the hands of ICE and our national government. Although there is certainly room for disagreement and discussion on how to approach sensible immigration policy, what is not negotiable are our rights to free speech and peaceful protest, due process, humane treatment of citizens and any person on US soil, whether documented or not, and above all, to not be brutalized, intimidated or murdered by agents of our government for exercising these rights. As descendants of immigrants ourselves, whose ancestors arrived here to better their lives, flee a genocide, or in some cases, forced to immigrate against their will, we stand firmly against the current administration and demand an immediate end to the DHS policies that are brutalizing and killing people in our communities with impunity. We urge everyone in our community to use their voices to let their political representatives know where they stand on this issue. It's Minneapolis today, but it could just as easily be Philadelphia tomorrow and it's up to all of us to do everything we can to stop this madness in it's tracks.

What a wonderful day of holiday cheer as we had our winter socials; inviting our families in for some circle time, hot chocolate and TONS of baked goodies. The classes have been hard at work pouring, mixing, kneading, rolling and cutting all week and it couldn't have gone any better. We are so grateful for our entire extended community and hope every one has the exact holiday season and new year they hope for! See ya in 2026!

Last week, one of our favorite extended family members, Chef Charles from Harlem Baking Co. , joined our primary classes for a lesson in making the most delicious chocolate mousse we've ever eaten. If you know us, you know we love to whip up some amazing goodies with the kids, but we've never done anything quite like this! Chef talked to us about the importance of using quality ingredients, considering sustainability when preparing and packaging our goods, and the children got to help with every step from separating the eggs to whipping the ingredients to their favorite part... eating the fruits of their labor 😂😂. We can't wait for him to come back! Also, although they're based in NYC, you can order their desserts via their website for shipping nationally!

The OHM Kindergarteners headed out to check out the beautiful new last week to tour the stunningly landscaped grounds, view the mobiles and stabiles, and learn about Philadelphia's most famous sculptor family. We highly recommend checking out this latest jewel in the cultural crown of Philadelphia that is the Parkway District!

We got Red October off to a fantastic start with our first (hopefully of many 🤞🏻) Phillies Day of the 2025 playoffs! Mr. Skip brought his custom guitar for the occasion and we cheered on the home team, hoping for another great playoff run to boost the city vibes! ⚾⚾

Aaaaaaand we're back! Last week we welcomed all of our amazing teachers and students, new and returning, to kick off our sixteenth school year! One of the highlights of the beginning of the school year is our older, returning students leaning into their new roles as classroom leaders and helping their new friends feel welcomed and adjusted to their new school environments and routines and if our first week is any indication, we're in for an outstanding year!

It's summertime at OHM so you know what that means...were hopping on and heading out around the city in search of fun and adventure (and spraygrounds 😂)!
