Science fair judge..... 10/23 @ 12 -2:30 PM (working with teams of 3-4 other grad students to judge high school science fair projects)

Showing nanotechnology movies ...10/23 @ 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM (showing15-20 minute short movies - any hourly intervals)

The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position to conduct research on in-situ surface electronic, ionic, and electrocatalytic functionality in oxides. The successful applicant will characterize materials using atomically-resolved scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopy and spectroscopy, electron spectroscopies (x-ray and ultraviolet photoemission), and electron and x-ray diffraction within an established program. The program will have a strong component of innovative technique development and is designed to promote broad scientific interactions. The CNMS is a collaborative nanoscience user
research facility established by the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy.

Qualifications:
This position requires a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials and Surface Science, or a related field. The successful applicant should have a strong background in ultrahigh vacuum techniques, including scanning probe microscopy and electron spectroscopy. Experience in electrochemistry of solid-oxide fuel cell materials, physics of oxide materials, surface science, or electron and ionic transport characterization will be an advantage. Prior research work needs to be supported by a strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. The applicant should be motivated, safety conscious and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. The applicant must have the ability to work in a team, interact effectively with colleagues and external collaborators.
Demonstrated ability to communicate in English to an international
scientific audience is essential. Applicants must have received their highest degree not more than five years prior to the date of
application, and must complete all degree requirements before starting the appointment.
