The Aspen Grove School is an urban nature based and Reggio- inspired, hands-on learning community for children ages 6 weeks – 5 years.

The Aspen tree rarely stands alone. Its roots are interconnected beneath the surface, sharing nutrients through which a vital community of Aspen trees spring up, stand tall and reach toward the sun. This is the community we hope to grow. The Aspen Grove School is a hands-on learning community for children ages 6 weeks – 5 years. Our goal is to introduce children across the age range to learning th

Our International Mud Day celebration was a huge success!

This day was born over a decade ago when teachers from two countries realized that their students’ experiences with mud were vastly different. A school in Australia did not have regular access to mud due to their sandy soil, and a school in Nepal did not have access to soap to clean their clothes and therefore discouraged their children from getting dirty. A beautiful partnership of compassion grew from their dialogue, and International Mud Day has been growing in traction and reach ever since!

Inspired, challenged, and energized! Four members of the Aspen Grove team are at the Boulder Journey School’s Reggio conference learning alongside educators who share our belief in children as capable, competent, and curious learners. We’re excited to bring fresh inspiration and ideas back to our teachers and classrooms!

Honoring Juneteenth in our beautiful, historic space that once housed the First African Baptist Church of Philadelphia—a place rooted in faith, community, and resilience. We are grateful to steward a building with such meaningful history, and to continue filling it with the wonder, curiosity, and joy of childhood.

Today’s concert was incredible!

Thank you to Ms. Cathy from and our very own Ms. Diana for guiding our Preschool and Pre-K friends through their musical performance!

And special thanks to for providing us with a beautiful location for the show.

We are so proud of our Primary Circle classes!

Have you found yourself wondering, “Will my child be ready for kindergarten?” “Should they already be reading or doing math?” “Is play enough to prepare them for what comes next?” .

These are important questions - and ones many families are asking. Join us for a parent education session designed to bring clarity and confidence to this stage of your child’s development. Grounded in research from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, this session will explore how play-based learning builds the critical foundations for kindergarten readiness—including language, problem-solving, self-regulation, and social skills.

We’ll also take a closer look at how literacy, math, and STEM learning are meaningfully woven into a play-based environment and how academic skills are not separate from play, they are embedded within it. Join our session with Deb Green (ECE leader for over 40 years, retired Executive Director of PIC - a Reggio-inspired STAR 4 and NAEYC-accredited program, and adjunct ECE professor at Arcadia University), as we unpack what “Kindergarten readiness” means and what this looks like at Philly’s public and private schools.

Mother’s Day is a special pause to think about the women who shape us, long before we fully understand what they are carrying for us behind the scenes.

The love and influence of mothers and mother figures often changes the trajectory of our lives in ways words can barely capture.

To the mothers celebrating for the very first time this year, whether with a newborn or one on the way, we are celebrating you too. For the Aspen Grove teachers who bring a mother-like touch to each child’s day, we are grateful for you.

Wishing all of our AGS mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and mother figures a Mother’s Day filled with love, rest, and reminders of how deeply valued you are.

Last week our Leadership Team traveled to Reno to attend AELL’s annual conference. We learned so much and are so grateful for our amazing teachers and staff who allowed us the opportunity to be off-site for multiple days to focus on becoming better leaders.
