This week’s is Ketanji Brown Jackson. On April 7th, 2022, Ketanji became the first black woman to be confirmed to the U.S Supreme Court with three Republicans and all 50 Democrats supporting her nomination. Before her historic confirmation, Brown worked as a federal judge and public defender. After graduating from Harvard University magna cm laude and earning her law degree in 1996, Brown completed three clerkships, including one with the U.S. Supreme Court Associate who she would later replace, Justice Stephen Breyer. Ketanji’s hard work and perseverance in a field dominated by white men continues to inspire ambitious women everywhere. We wish the best of luck to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson!

When a student asked her a question about the Women’s Movement and she didn’t know the answer, she realized that women’s narratives had been left out of history books, classrooms, and the media. Molly Murphy MacGregor led a coalition that brought this issue all the way to President Jimmy Carter who signed Women’s History Week into law in 1980. We now celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring the women who made it possible.
