Thank you, Dr. Fingerhut. Congratulations, Dr. Spokas!
Dear Students and Alumni,
For those of you who do not know, my appointment as Director ends this semester (please see email from Dean Barnett below). The appointment was for 5 years. I decided not to seek another term as Director in order to devote more time to teaching, research, and mentoring students. Please know that although I will not be serving as Director I will continue to be actively involved in our curriculum and training as a full-time faculty member.
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Spokas has been formally offered and has accepted the position as new Director. I think I can speak for the rest of the faculty in saying that our program is in very capable hands. During her tenure as Psychology faculty, Dr. Spokas has demonstrated steady leadership, stepping in as DCT last spring, and co-leading our program evaluation with Dr. Goldbacher this year. Dr. Spokas is intimately connected to all facets of our program, including curriculum, research, dissertations, and clinical training. She is a dedicated educator, a student-centered mentor, and an exemplar of the La Sallian mission.
Dr. Spokas and I have been meeting this semester to work on the transition and will continue to do so until the end of May. She will officially start her appointment as Director on June 3.
In closing, I wanted to express my deep appreciation to all of you. I feel very fortunate to have led a program that has students who are hard working, caring, and passionate about clinical psychology. Thank you for making our program great!
Best wishes,
Dr. Fingerhut

Subject: Psy.D. Direction, strong past & promising future
Dear Colleagues and Students,
LaSalle’s Psy.D. program is one that the university is especially proud of, providing high quality education and preparation for its students. As a new Dean, I have been so impressed with the quality of this faculty and the strong commitment to excellence. The students who graduate from this program represent themselves and La Salle so well as they live out their professional callings.
We are grateful to Dr. Randy Fingerhut for his leadership of the program for the past 5 years. He has led the program through growth and a recent reaccreditation that recognizes the strengths of the program. He did all of this while mentoring countless students and co-authoring a textbook on practical ethics for psychologists and several peer-reviewed articles. He was recently promoted to Full Professor on the basis of his strong record of teaching, scholarship and service. He has left the program in better shape, and in collaboration with Chair Kelly McClure and colleagues Megan Spokas and Edie Goldbacher he led the effort to secure appropriate compensation for faculty chairing and serving on dissertation committees.
We are equally grateful that Dr. Megan Spokas has agreed to serve as the new Director of the Psy.D. program. She will serve for three years, beginning on June 3, 2019. Dr. Spokas worked with Dr. Goldbacher to research how peer and aspirant institutions structure the chairing of dissertations, and has brought back important ideas for improving faculty life and supporting appropriate mentoring. This spring she continues to work with Dr. Goldbacher to consider curricular and program improvements. Dr. Spokas is an expert in su***de prevention and has led the department in advocacy and awareness work, especially through the Out of the Darkness walk. Her most recent scholarship is on “Cultural Considerations in Defining Emotional Disorders.” I am confident that she will provide strong leadership in the years to come.
Best Regards,
Pamela
