The event titled: "Civic Engagement in the Revolutionary City, 1776 and 2026," will take place at the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia on Wednesday 7/15 from 6pm-7:30pm. The event will feature an all-star lineup of scholars in a wide-ranging conversation that will illuminate the Civics Exchange’s broadest goals—to highlight SHEAR members’ expertise on the history that has shaped our civic institutions and civic culture—while also offering rich, informed discussions of some of the key documents that reveal that history. Call for Applications: SHEAR 2026 Travel Grants

SHEAR has a small fund, thanks to contributions from the John Carter Brown Library and the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in history at the University of Texas-Dallas, to provide travel grants to attend our annual conference with priority to those with no (or limited) institutional funding.
