Brave Hearts for Strong Minds is an organization that challenges all of us to be brave, band together, and work hard to help those who need it most by collecting and donating money to education funds for children who have lost a parent Brave Hearts for Strong Minds was started in 2012 after a beloved community member, Tom Reilly, suddenly passed away leaving behind his wife and four young children. One of the most notable of these concerns was the family’s ability to financially provide for the children’s education. Reflecting on Tom’s compassion and friendship, we came up with a way to ease the burden for not only Tom’s children but for families within local communities for generations to come. Each year, the Saturday before Father’s Day, Brave Hearts for Strong Minds gathers families, friends, local businesses, and community members for a day of food, fun, walking, and music at LaSalle College High School in Wyndmoor PA. The celebration of community culminates by having walkers raise funds on their own personalized participant page in which the proceeds are 100% donated to education funds of children who have lost a parent. Our goal as an organization is to provide educational assistance for as many families that have experienced the loss of a parent as possible by creating a pay-it-forward network, asking that those families who receive aid also become brave hearts that work to create strong minds by helping to organize and choose the future events and recipients.
