Home Juneteenth celebrates the end of legal slavery in the United States in 1865 after the Civil War.  On June 19, 1865, a Union General arrived in Galveston, TX, and re-issued Licoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.  Thus the name “Juneteenth.” Texans have been celebrating Junteenth ever since.

Dear NIA Friends,

Next week NIA begins our Summer Virtual Camp Program 2020!!! We are very excited about this New and innovative program. Summer should be a time of fun, exploration, mingling with new friends and learning or sharpening a new skill. During the last few months we have discovered that although we are practicing social distancing we can still enjoy some of the activities that make us feel alive. There are things we look forward to throughout the year and summer is one of them, but also.....CAMP!

So why not think about you and your family joining us for CAMP this summer online! Each weekly Virtual camp takes on a unique design and theme of its own. This is why we call them Specialty Camps. Each week your children have the opportunity to get outdoors to explore nature, led by a true boy scout leader and alongside Ms. Nikia. Art classes, In-house service projects, and Fun Games and activities are also included in the week. We have specialty classes scheduled from week to week, taught by true professionals in various fields of interest! *Academic Enrichment Workshops twice a week.

Week 1- Dance Class Lessons are offered and this week concludes with a performance. Week 2- Ink! Writers and Book Lovers Camp. Youth will dive into pages of GREATNESS and also come up with words of their very OWN!
Week 3- Hip Hop, Step and Video Production Camp and on Friday a Group Project will follow.
Week 4- Coding for Kids...this camp will work on their Web-Designing Skills and create something that is graphically hip and chic, fly and fleek, with their lead teacher.
