We’re excited partner with the Barnes to celebrate living and thriving Indigenous cultures! Join us at the Barnes Foundation’s PECO Free First Sunday Family Day: Thriving Traditions, presented in partnership with IPD Philly in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

ArtWell Teaching Artist Jean Wong and Blew Kind will be facilitating hands-on art workshops throughout the day, inviting families to create and connect with Indigenous cultures through art. The day will also feature interactive performances by Native Nations Dance Theater, Philadelphia’s only Indigenous professional touring dance company. Through music, dance, and history, they’ll share traditions representing Native nations across America and celebrate the Native American community today.

Plus, enjoy free art activities, interactive storytime with Ana Atach of Canticuentos, a family scavenger hunt, and access to the Barnes collections, Noguchi to Asawa: Designing Postwar America and Just Us.

What a celebration! Our most recent Poetry & Art Show brought our community together at The Galleries at Moore College of Art and Design to celebrate the creativity and imagination of Philly’s young artists.

From powerful poetry and live performances to an immersive collection of visual and literary art created by K–12 students throughout the academic year, the afternoon was a beautiful reminder of what happens when young people are given space to share their voices and visions. We were honored to welcome poet and educator Yolanda Wisher, former Philadelphia Youth Poet Laureate Rashawn Dorsey, and an incredible lineup of student performers who filled the galleries with words, energy, and heart.

This year’s show was especially meaningful because we celebrated 25 years of ArtWell, honoring our family, our history, and the power of community (one of our 6 core values). Thank you to every young artist, Teaching Artist, family member, educator, performer, partner, sponsor, and community member who helped make this celebration possible. We’re so proud to witness and uplift the next generation of Philly storytellers and artists.

Here’s to 25 years of creativity, connection, and community, and to the many voices still to come.

We’re celebrating our MasterPeace graduates! What a powerful summer of creativity we had! Our MasterPeace program, relaunched as a pilot with the Urban League of Philadelphia, brought young people together to turn ideas into action, and transform blank walls in the Urban League’s offices into a bold, community-powered work of art.

Through murals, mosaics, installations, and more, our students built creative skills, strengthened connections with each other, and discovered what’s possible when we imagine and create together.

Join us at the Please Touch Museum () on September 19th! We'll offer the pop-up workshop "Superhero Me: Create Your Own Superhero" from 12-3pm!

What makes you super? Your imagination? Your kindness? Your creativity? Your ability to make others smile? Led by Reagan Watkins (.poems), Superhero Me is a fun, open-ended art activity where young artists can dream up and create their very own superhero!
Participants will transform a pre-cut paper figure into a one-of-a-kind superhero by designing: colorful capes, special symbols, masks & costumes, superpowers, accessories, and creative details.

Make your character as unique as you are while exploring self-expression and creative decision-making. Drop in anytime! Create at your own pace, and take your finished superhero home as a special keepsake.

This summer, students from Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania joined ArtWell with big ideas, open hearts, and a belief in the power of community and young people.

Alongside our team, they experienced the many ways art can bring people together. From supporting Play on Philly on Temple’s campus, where students explored self-expression through playful creative activities, to witnessing the return of MasterPeace in partnership with Urban League of Philadelphia, where young people are turning ideas into murals, mosaics, installations, and action. Thank you to our awesome Teaching Artists: Blew Kind, Mugo Muna, Marcy Morris, Jean Wong, and Lindo Jones.

We sat down with our interns to discuss the creativity and fresh perspectives they brought to ArtWell helping us imagine what’s possible when we create together.

Summer may be winding down, but imagination has no end! This summer, ArtWell partnered with Play on Philly to fill the days with exploration, connection, and plenty of room to create. On Temple University’s campus, our Teaching Artists guided students through hands-on creative experiences where self-expression met collaboration, and new friendships grew along the way.

In these photos, Teaching Artists Jean Wong and Lindo Jones invited students to dream up their own scribble monsters, using playful characters as a way to explore, identify, and develop the personality traits they want to carry with them. From a scribble on a page to a new idea about ourselves, creativity has a way of helping us see what’s possible.

Here’s to a summer well spent and to all the ideas and connections our students are carrying forward.

Read along with us! We’re excited to announce bell hooks’ Art on My Mind as ArtWell’s book pick for the 2026–2027 program year.

In Art on My Mind, hooks invites us to look more deeply at the power of art, and at the ways race, gender, class, and culture shape what we see, who gets represented, and whose stories are valued. Through thoughtful essays on visual culture and Black representation, hooks challenges us to consider art not simply as something we look at, but as a powerful space for identity.

This book asks us to think differently. It encourages us to question dominant narratives, make space for marginalized voices, and recognize the transformative potential of creative expression. Art on My Mind also connects deeply with ArtWell’s organizational theme for the year (and one of our six core values): Social Justice.

Throughout the year, we’ll explore how art can help us see one another more fully, create space for diverse perspectives, and build stronger, more connected communities. Stay tuned as we read, reflect, and explore the power of art together!

What an inspiring week of creativity, connection, and artistic exploration! During the 2026 Poetry & Art Show exhibit week, ArtWell welcomed creatives of all ages to a series of free workshops at The Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design, surrounded by powerful poetry and artwork created by talented K–12 students from across Philadelphia.

Throughout the week, participants explored collage-making with Destiny Crockett during Lyrical Fragments, transforming poetry into visual art through abstract and figurative compositions. At Artbreak with ArtWell, attendees created vibrant fabric mosaic collages using textiles, paint markers, and thread. During The Art of Roses, led by Essence McCants, participants learned the art of reflexing roses and designed stunning embellished bouquets. The series concluded with The Ekphrastic Eye: Writing After Art, where writers and artists explored the relationship between visual art and poetry, creating original work inspired by the exhibit.

Thank you to our incredible workshop facilitators, participants, and everyone who helped make this week so special. We loved seeing our community come together to create, connect, and be inspired by the brilliance of Philadelphia’s young artists.
