At Imhotep Institute Charter High School, we know that student success is strongest when schools and families grow together. Our SBA Academy Bridge Program Family Engagement Celebration was an opportunity to recognize the dedication, growth, and commitment of the incredible families who invested in their children’s future this summer. Last Friday, we held our second Family Engagement Celebration this summer and it was amazing to see all of our new scholars and their families there celebrating their scholars.

Congratulations to all of our scholars and families who participated. Your hard work, partnership, and perseverance continue to strengthen the Imhotep community. We are extremely excited to see you all at Imhotep in less than a month. We cannot wait to see the impact you bring to Imhotep.

At the conclusion of Session I of our SBA Academy Summer Bridge Program this week, we had the privilege of recognizing our newest Imhotepians for their hard work, growth, and commitment over the past two weeks.

From the moment they walked through our doors, these scholars embraced the challenge of preparing for high school through academics, wellness, culture, and leadership. Yesterday, they proudly received their first Imhotep dashiki, certificates of completion, and gift cards in recognition of their dedication throughout the program.

At Imhotep, we celebrate perseverance, growth, and the willingness to embrace every opportunity to learn and lead.

Congratulations to each of our scholars. This ceremony may have marked the end of Summer Bridge, but it is only the beginning of your Imhotep journey.

Over the past two weeks, our incoming ninth-grade scholars participated in an onboarding experience that we call SBA (Summer Bridge Academy) designed to prepare them for success before their first day of high school. Through academic instruction in Mathematics and English Language Arts, cultural enrichment, wellness programming, and leadership development, our newest Imhotepians began building the foundation for a successful journey at Imhotep.

Yesterday, families joined us for our closing celebration as scholars confidently showcased what they had learned throughout the program, demonstrating not only academic growth but also the pride, confidence, and purpose that define an Imhotepian.

Rooted in the principles of Ubuntu (“I am because we are”) and Umoja (unity), our Summer Bridge Academy reflects our belief that scholar success is built through strong relationships among families, educators, and the community.

This is the beginning of a new chapter for the Class of 2030. Welcome to the Imhotep family! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish.

It’s been one week since we celebrated the graduation of our Nubia VII Scholars, the class of 6266, and we wanted to share some photos from their awards banquet, a night where we gathered to celebrate the scholars of Nubia VII who excelled throughout their senior year. In true African-centered tradition, we honored their achievements with cords, awards, and scholarships, lifting up those who upheld the legacy of our institutional ancestors through discipline, leadership, and service.

Cords were awarded to:
•Imhotep Panthers Football Team
•Imhotep Men’s Panthers Basketball Team
• Lady Panthers Girls Basketball
• Flag Football Team
• Legal Panthers Mock Trial
• Pretty Panthers Cheer Team
• Wellness Team
• Tep Track
• COYAL Student Government
• STEM Ambassadors
• WHYY Film Club
• Book to Film Club
• The Keepers of the Culture
• Waset National Honor Society
• Dual Enrollment Scholars

We also recognized all scholars who maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher, as well as those who passed 2 and 3 of their Keystone exams.

This awards banquet was a powerful demonstration of Umoja, Ujima, and Kuumba, as Nubia VII demonstrated that they truly are the multi-geniuses that Imhotep prepared them to be.

This week, the Imhotep family gathered for our End-of-Year Staff Appreciation Closeout Brunch. It was a wonderful time to pause, reflect, and celebrate the people whose daily commitment helps move our mission forward.

Throughout the year, our administrators, educators, counselors, climate team, support staff, coaches, and team members have shown up for our scholars with consistency, care, and Nia. During today’s celebration, the instructional coaches recognized outstanding staff members for their contributions in their respective departments. Additionally, we honored those with exceptional attendance, and celebrated colleagues reaching significant service milestones. This year, there were 5 staff members who celebrated 5 and 10 years anniversaries with the Imhotep family, and one family member who celebrated 15 years.

In many African traditions, Ubuntu teaches us, “I am because we are.” That’s something our scholars and staff say every morning after pouring morning libation in our school’s affirmation statement. It’s absolutely true that our success as a school is rooted in that principle. No achievement belongs to one person alone. It is built through Ujima.

Likewise, Umoja reminds us that strong communities are built when people work together toward a common purpose. Every classroom lesson, every counseling session, every phone call home, every practice, every meeting, and every act of service contributes to the success of our scholars.

Imhotep family: thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your service. Thank you for ensuring our scholars thrive.

Today, the Class of 6266 walked across the stage and into their future with dignity, excellence, and Imhoptien Pride!

There is no graduation even close to an Imhotep graduation; it is filled with celebration, cultural heritage, and pride. From the powerful processional to the celebration of their achievements, our scholars showed the world what Imhotep is made of. Dressed in white and traditional African attire, they represented our African-centered STEM legacy with grace and strength.

We are incredibly proud of every graduate — especially our history-making academic standouts:
• Latief Lorenzano White, our Valedictorian
• Leah Jenkins and Cyril Woodland, our Co-Salutorians — a first in Imhotep history!

We are also proud of our three standout award winners:
• Amari Alexander earned the Associate Principal Award

We have to stop asking students:

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

And start asking:

“What problem will you help solve?”

At Imhotep STEM, we believe education is bigger than grades, test scores, and memorization. The future belongs to young people who can use their knowledge to improve lives, strengthen communities, and create solutions for real-world challenges.

This was never just a service trip.

It was our students applying STEM, innovation, leadership, and compassion to make a tangible impact. Research continues to show that students learn more deeply when learning is connected to real experiences. When young people can see the direct impact of their work, education becomes meaningful, memorable, and transformative.

This journey was proof of what we have always known: our students are capable of changing lives, building stronger communities, and leading the future.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible village standing behind them.

Yesterday, our 11th grade scholars brought fire, vision, and excellence to the stage in a powerful Shark Tank-style business pitch competition!

For the last six weeks, these young Songhai VII entrepreneurs worked with The Business Center through their Rites of Passage class, turning ideas into real business plans. They presented in front of local community leaders and were judged on innovation, presentation, and planning.

We are especially grateful to our principal, Mama Dr. Jury Segers, for creating and supporting these transformative opportunities for our scholars. Her leadership continues to open doors and elevate our Imhotepians every single day.
