Project 440 provides service-based career connected learning opportunities for Philadelphia youth that foster creativity, encourage civic engagement and develop employable and essential life skills. Project 440 educates, engages and inspires young musicians, providing them with the life and career skills they need to develop into tomorrow's civic-minded, entrepreneurial leaders. Courses presented are: College and Career Preparedness, Leaderships and Entrepreneurship Training, and Community Engagement & Interactive Performance. In addition, students may participate in our chamber music interactive performance program, Project 440 Presents, with P440 teaching artists and staff coaching students to create and present original interactive performances designed to engages a variety of non-traditional are community spaces. In the Project 440 Social Entrepreneurs workshop series, young musicians learn what it means to be an entrepreneur, how to be a social entrepreneur using music as a tool, and work with Project 440 coaches and guest experts to develop their own entrepreneurial projects. To accompany the Seminar courses, participants are given Project 440’s Young Musician’s Survival Kit, a 100-page booklet designed to provide pre-college students with the relevant tools and information necessary for a career in music in the 21st century. Contents include discussions of the college experience, the entrepreneurial musician, sample résumés, community engagement, and sample scripts of effective community engagement programs.
