The Center for Research in Feminist, Q***r, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to invite applications for a Part-Time Project Manager for the Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Nonconforming Oral History Archive Project.

Job Description

The Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Nonconforming Oral History Archive Project is an initiative between the Center for Research in Feminist, Q***r, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, William Way LGBT Community Center, and the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts at the University of Pennsylvania. The project is funded by the School of Arts and Sciences Making A Difference in Diverse Communities grant, which is intended to support community-engaged projects. The goal of this project is to facilitate meaningful connections between the FQT Center, William Way, and trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming persons and communities in Philadelphia and to create an oral history archive that is co-created and co-owned with participants. The archive will be a city-campus partnership that aims to center the voices of trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people by systematically recording their stories using oral history methods. The unique archive created by these histories will capture a historic and transformative moment in gender identity, embodiment and experience, and provide a valuable resource for scholars and the community.

The FQT Center seeks a Project Manager who will work closely with the Director and Associate Directors of the Center and GSWS, as well as coordinate with Kislak Center staff to help determine the goals, scope, and content of the Trans Oral History Archive Project. The Manager will work with Center staff to develop methods for documenting, cataloguing, and sharing the collected oral histories. The Project Manager will work with Center staff to coordinate the advisory committee, recruit participants, conduct interviews, and work with affiliated faculty and students. The Project Manager must have deep ties within TNBGN communities in Philadelphia.

This is a Part Time Regular Staff position working 17.5 hours/week. It is a one year appointment with the possibility for renewal, contingent on funding.

DUTIES:

Expected duties include:

-Help develop the vision and scope of the Archive
-Facilitate community partnerships, public outreach, and foster strong relationships with local trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming communities
-Work with Center staff to coordinate the Archive advisory board
-Help establish guidelines and design protocol for interviewing practices that prioritize co-creation and co-ownership with participants
-Identify and recruit narrators to be interviewed
-Help coordinate interviews and cataloguing practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have extensive community experience to act as a community liaison with the TNBGN communities in Philadelphia; the ability to work in interdisciplinary setting with librarians, historians, university staff, academic programs, centers, and community members; strong administrative experience, organizational skills and attentiveness to detail; oral history experience also desirable. The successful applicant will also have opportunities for on-the-job training to further develop these skills, as well as access to resources and facilities at Penn.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest with the application and C.V. The letter of interest should include a combination of qualifications and experience and a statement of interest in developing the vision and scope of this archive. Applicants may also submit supplementary materials if desired.
