"My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed and supported me in whatever I did. When my father didn't have my hand, he had my back and I know he is still looking down from above and guiding me... Miss Ya Dad...

It is with Deepest Sympathy and Sorrow that tonight I say Goodbye and raise a glass of Diplomatico Rum to a Great Friend and "My Little Brother" since our high school days.
[Amendment]: Patrick Ahern Class W.B. Saul H.S. which would have been the Class of 1976 [but he did graduate from Olney HS in 1976].
Pat and I met in 1972 with a very close friendship remaining throughout the years, bonded by a strong attachment to music whether through discussions or jamming together during high school and long afterward through the years.
I played keys, and he played sax and flute. He also was an exceptional bassoonist who played with various orchestral ensembles.
I recall seeing my very first concert with him at the Spectrum, which was Chicago (the Terry Kath days). We were extreme fans of the group whose music we played continually. We took public transportation and the subway from my parent's house in Roxborough down to Broad Street. [OMG, nowadays we would have not survived that trip during the day let alone at night].
He was indeed the brother I never had.
He would always ask how my "blushing bride" [Julie] was every time we spoke on the phone. On visits to our home, he would ask early morning of Julie, if there was any coffee (?) to which she would kindly reply, "Patrick you know where it is and where the kitchen is."
Julie is very upset as Patrick was truly family since I was his "Big Brother" which made her a "sister-in-law."
As I am typing this, I find myself at an extreme loss for words even though I have written what seems like many. But these words are not quite enough to recount over 50 years of a friendship. For me, many will find that statement of being wordless unbelievable!
For anyone knowing Pat, this "lack of words" on my part may be a result of him being, and I say this in the nicest way I can... "the king of procrastination" with many various issues. Maybe to me even death...
Many times I would ask him about issues and I would get his very long, "Well... " or "Ummmmmmm..." at the beginning of his answers.
With the realization of his death, I know it will hit me hard, but dealing with Patrick over the years, I have dealt with waiting... with matters being on "Patrick time." (those who knew him to know exactly what I am saying). Times he would accomplish a task, other times not.
So sorrow and grief will come though be it delayed... but I know it will come.
RIP My Little Bro... We will meet again one day ❤
Now, it is starting to hit me... Must be the rum
