Southwark Elementary School

Dear Southwark Families,

As many of you know, our school building has been experiencing several ongoing facilities issues. I want to be clear that I understand these conditions are not what our students or staff deserve. Our children should be learning in a building that is safe, comfortable and fully supports their education. I know that the current situation has been frustrating and concerning for many families, and I want you to know that I take these concerns seriously.

I truly appreciate the patience and support our community has shown as we work through these challenges. At the same time, I share your expectation that these issues must improve, and we will continue to push for the repairs and attention our school needs.

To help address questions and hear directly from families, the Operations Division of The School District of Philadelphia will be hosting two opportunities for our community to learn more and share concerns - one virtual and one in-person at Southwark.

At these meetings, members of the District’s Operations team will discuss the concerns we’ve been experiencing, answer questions and share next steps for addressing these issues. Como muchos de ustedes saben, nuestro edificio escolar ha estado experimentando varios problemas continuos con las instalaciones. Quiero dejar claro que entiendo que estas condiciones no son las que nuestros estudiantes o personal merecen. Nuestros hijos deben aprender en un edificio que sea seguro, cómodo y que apoye plenamente su educación. Sé que la situación actual ha sido frustrante y preocupante para muchas familias, y quiero que sepan que me tomo muy en serio estas preocupaciones.

Agradezco sinceramente la paciencia y el apoyo que nuestra comunidad ha demostrado mientras trabajamos para superar estos retos. Al mismo tiempo, comparto su expectativa de que estos problemas deben mejorar, y seguiremos presionando para que se realicen las reparaciones y se preste la atención que nuestra escuela necesita.
