On Wednesday, Sept. 22 – join us to interrogate the role of Main Streets in mental health with a leading social psychiatrist and professor of urban policy and health, Dr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove.
Mindy Thompson Fullilove used the “stroll and scroll method” and over 11 years visited Main Streets in 178 cities in 14 countries. She observed floods, hurricanes, gentrification, disinvestment, and daily life. She concluded that the snymorphy between the form of the street and the activities of the people are at the heart of Main Street’s contributions to population mental health.
This lecture is presented by Tyler’s Department of Architecture & Environmental Design. It is free and open to the public.

Congratulations, Lolly! We are so glad you are able to add this to many wonderful contributions you have made to landscape architecture.
Congratulations to Dr. Lolly Tai, professor of landscape architecture at Tyler who received the 2021 Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal from the American Society of Landscape Architects—a national honor recognizing significant contributions to landscape architecture education. 🌿
Dr. Tai, a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, has been a formidable educator, teaching design studios, research design methods, materials and methods of construction and site engineering, among others. She has focused her research on children's relationships with gardens and how well-designed play areas can promote children's emotional and physical well-being. She authored three books on children's recreational spaces, including The Magic of Children's Gardens: Inspiring Through Creative Design (Temple University Press, 2017).
The Teaching Medal will be presented to Dr. Tai during the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in November 2021.
