IRS Scams
As the 2018 tax filing season begins, please remember to beware of phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Callers claiming to be from the IRS tell intended victims they owe taxes and must pay using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The IRS usually first contacts people by mail – not by phone – about unpaid taxes. And the IRS won’t ask for payment using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The IRS also won’t ask for a credit card number over the phone.

Immigration Scams
Callers may also pretend to be USCIS or DHS officers. The caller usually claims there are problems with the intended victim’s visa and will threaten deportation if some type of payment is not made. Please be informed that U.S. government agencies will NEVER call you to request money or personal information.

If you receive this type of phone call, please take the following steps:

- Hang up immediately and DO NOT provide any information
- You may also choose to report it to our office or to the appropriate government authority
