Join us today at Angel Flight East’s Wings N’ Wheels festival, Wings Field in Blue Bell on Saturday, September 19.

Scheduled from 11 AM to 4 PM, the community festival will combine aviation and STEM activities with live music, food trucks, craft b**r, and family entertainment. Proceeds will benefit Angel Flight East, a nonprofit whose volunteer pilots provide free air transportation to people traveling long distances for medical care.

Chestnut Hill College will be hosting a booth at the event, sharing information about its new Aviation Sciences Professional and Aviation Business Management programs.

Chestnut Hill College will challenge area restaurants, including Fireside, MaGerks, and Phil’s Tavern, for chicken-wing bragging rights. Von C Brewing Co. and Wissahickon Brewing Company will serve craft b**r. See you there!

Every September, we pause as a community to remember September 11, 2001 — a day that changed our nation and our world in ways that are still being felt nearly a quarter-century later.

On this anniversary, I ask our entire Chestnut Hill College community — students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends — to take a moment to reflect on the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, and on the thousands more who have died in the years since from illnesses connected to their service and sacrifice at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and in the skies over Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

We remember the first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct told them to run away. We remember the passengers of Flight 93, whose courage in our own state of Pennsylvania reminded the world what ordinary people are capable of in extraordinary circumstances. We remember the families who have carried the weight of that day for over twenty years, and the survivors who continue to live with what they witnessed and endured.

For those of us old enough to remember where we were that morning, September 11 remains etched in memory with a clarity few other days can claim. For many of our current students, born after 2001, this day is not a memory, but a piece of history — one they have inherited rather than lived. Both experiences matter. Both deserve our attention.

As a Catholic institution rooted in the Sisters of Saint Joseph's charism of unity and reconciliation, Chestnut Hill College holds a particular responsibility on this day: to teach not only the facts of what happened, but the values that must guide our response — compassion over fear, unity over division, and the recognition of a shared humanity that transcends any single tragedy.

I encourage members of our community to take time today for quiet reflection, prayer, or conversation with one another. Let us honor the memory of those we lost by recommitting ourselves to the ideals of service, compassion, and community that define who we are as Griffins.

May we never forget.

We are so excited to be joined by Matt Cox, the writer of 'Puffs,' at the 15th annual Harry Potter Academic Conference in Philadelphia on October 23 and 24. Register now to see his talk in person or online at harrypotterconference.com.

This presentation offers a look back at the 10-year history of 'Puffs (or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic)' with playwright Matt Cox. From its creative origins to its Off-Broadway run to its widespread adoption as one of the most produced plays in high schools around the world, the session explores the unexpected trajectory of this little-play-that-could.

Cox will discuss his own process of balancing what is expected of parody with the goal of creating a work that transcends those expectations and stands with its own identity. Plus, how the changing fandom shaped the play’s own evolution in the decade since its premiere. A peek behind the curtain of how the magic happened.

Twenty-seven years after being wrongfully convicted of murder, John “Yahya” Moore walked out of prison a free man.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Moore will join Chestnut Hill College educator Tricia Way to share the remarkable story of his wrongful conviction, the long effort to secure his freedom, and the hope, dignity and resilience that sustained him.

Way, who teaches courses at Chestnut Hill College on criminal justice, restorative justice and wrongful convictions, met Moore while volunteering at SCI Phoenix. After hearing him maintain his innocence, she took notice. The two eventually worked together on a campaign seeking his release through Pennsylvania’s Post-Conviction Relief Act, bringing forward new evidence that included information pointing to a credible alternate suspect.
Moore was released on July 11, 2023, after 27 years in prison.
