Teaching a sex-positive, inclusive, science-friendly Christianity!

The heart of the Christian story is incarnation, that is, God-in-the-flesh So Incarnation means the Sacred resides in our sensual and sexual bodies. Made in the image of the Divine we were pronounced by the Creator as "Very Good!" We celebrate that the body is good and sexuality is a gift to be celebrated. Fear, guilt, and shame about the body and sex have no place in the abundant life that Jesus promised (John 10:10)

Pleasure Church is a four-week online act of spiritual resistance beginning February 8. Hosted by Rev. Dr. Beverly Dale (“Rev Bev”) and supported by trained Pleasure Deacons and the Incarnation Institute for S*x & Faith, this series gathers spiritual seekers, disillusioned Christians, post-Christians, and accomplices committed to body justice for all. Rooted in a s*x-positive, inclusive Christian lineage, Pleasure Church confronts shame-based theology and reclaims pleasure as sacred, liberatory, and necessary. This is not traditional church and not therapy—it is a community practice grounded in trust, vulnerability, and the radical belief that honoring our bodies is essential to building a more just world.

There's been a lot of discussions and research about how to support an individual throughout deconstruction. However, deconstruction often significantly impacts and intensifies the couple relationship. One partner will likely deconstruct faster and differently than the other. One partner might explore an element of s*xuality without informing their partner. A partner might disclose a particular s*xual desire, identity, or relationship structure they want to explore. Evangelicalism encourages avoidance and enmeshment; deconstruction requires individuation and engaging more directly with conflict. In this presentation, Jeremiah Gibson, licensed marriage and family therapist and certified s*x therapist, discusses five common themes that arise in couples therapy where one or both people are deconstructing.

Art & Resistance in Appalachia
In a region often portrayed through stereotypes of scarcity or struggle, art has long been a means of protest—a way to remember, reimagine, and reclaim what dominant systems try to erase. This presentation explores how Appalachian artists use creativity to nurture collective memory and sustain the imagination needed to confront injustice in a time of growing White Christian Nationalism. Art rooted in love, care, pleasure, and mutuality becomes a survival strategy and a blueprint for liberation, meaning art is not a luxury—it’s an act of resistance.

What does History and Science (and the History of Science) have to tell us about pressing issues of s*xuality and faith today, including about trans folks and drag queens? Dr. David Ahmad-Stout is a psychologist and s*xologist who has been going into depth with people of all faiths and backgrounds, exploring the complexity of what we understand about s*xuality (and what we don't) with people for 25 years, in clinical, research, and forensic roles in Baltimore, Washington, Boston, and Philadelphia. This will include the role of institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, Eastern University, and Widener University, in their complex relationships with s*xuality and science over the years.
