This award honors the memory of a Penn student who was dedicated to heart-health literacy.

We are so proud to share that we have TWO Marshall Scholars in our class of 2025!!🎉🎉

Congratulations to Tej Patel (left) and Sridatta Teerdhala (right) for being among the 36 Marshall Scholars chosen this year from 983 applicants. Meant to strengthen U.S.-U.K. relations, this prestigious scholarship is chosen based on academic merit, leadership, and ambassadorial potential. They are the 26th and 27th Marshall Scholars from Penn since the scholarship’s inception in 1953, and among the 13 Penn affiliates chosen in the last seven consecutive years.

We are immensely proud to share that two of our LSM third-years have been selected to receive Harry S. Truman Scholarships, a merit based award of as much as $30,000 for graduate or professional school to prepare for careers in public service.

They are among 60 Truman Scholars from 54 U.S. colleges and universities selected this year from 709 candidates nominated by 285 institutions. They are the 31st and 32nd Truman Scholars from Penn since the first awards in 1977.

We are so proud to share that a team comprised of LSM students has won Penn's 2024 Y-Prize competition! The team of first-year undergrads proposed a commercial application for Penn’s biodegradable moisture sensors: a line of “smart” period products that alerts users when to change tampons and captures menstrual flow data for diagnostic purposes. Congratulations to Rima Chavali (LSM'27), Neha Chelamkuri (LSM'27) and Kylie Chang (M&T'27)!

We are also so happy to share that we had another team of LSMers as finalists for the Y-Prize this year. Aravind Krishnan (LSM'25), Ashna Patel (LSM'25), Tej Patel (LSM'25), Shailesh Senthil Kumar (LSM'26), Vasuprada Shandar (LSM'25), Hannah Zhang (Wh'25) make up team IntelliWound. IntelliWound is an EHR-connected moisture sensor integrated on wound dressings that enables faster, cost-effective, and higher-quality wound care.

The 2023 ITMAT Symposium is on October 9-10th, 2023 and enlists outstanding speakers from the U.S. and abroad to address topics of direct relevance to translational science. The theme this year will be "Origins, Emergence, Prediction and Perception of Disease: A Quantum of Solace". Dr. Garret Fitzgerald is the ITMAT Director, and also an LSM Advisory Board member.
