Tomorrow: 34th Annual African American Book Fair! 📚✨
Here’s why you can’t miss it: Representation for children matters. When kids see themselves in stories, they don’t just read they build their confidence, their zone of genius, and the belief that anything is possible.
This isn’t just a book fair it’s an experience that shapes identity, sparks curiosity, and inspires dreams.
Bring your little ones, explore amazing authors, and show them the power of seeing themselves reflected in the stories they love.

Stories, are what we have, really to make sense of things. Children don’t learn best through instruction. They learn through STORIES.
African American Authors such as Octavia E. Butler challenged us all, especially women of color, with the task of creating our own worlds and writing ourselves in.
She introduced us to Afrofuturism a form of artistic expression and social activism to examine the African diasporic culture merged with science fiction, technology, and fantasy to reimagine, reclaim, and explore black life and liberation.
It positions people of color as creators of knowledge, technology, and their own destiny, rather than victims of circumstance. In her work like Kindred and Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler moved us forward to revisit the past only as a foundation to imagine, and create more empowering futures where people of color are the hero’s and heroines, where their experiences are front and center.
In doing so, she invited us to imagine a better future and then work toward creating it.

Childcare owners are carrying more than people realize.
Not just schedules.
Not just licensing.
Not just long days.
They carry trust.
They carry responsibility.
They carry the early moments that shape who children become.
This work isn’t “just watching kids.”
It’s helping build confidence, safety, curiosity, and care day after day.
What happens in early childhood doesn’t stay there.
It echoes through families, communities, and generations.
And yet, so much of this work happens quietly.
Without recognition.
Without rest.
If you’re a provider reading this,
your work matters more than you’re often told.
Please pass this on to another childcare owner or provider.
Someone who deserves to feel seen today. 🤍

When the world feels chaotic, Dr. King’s life reminds us that hope is not passive, it is taught, practiced, and lived. Through early education, we plant seeds of courage, compassion, and the ability to dream beyond our current reality toward the world we know is possible, in the hearts of our children.
