On Thursday, students at Philly Primary took some time out of their day to make a difference by sharing the joy of reading! Our older students put their reading skills to work as they partnered with our younger learners to read and enjoy books together. With teachers helping guide the book selection process, this special time provided a wonderful opportunity to build reading skills, strengthen relationships, and foster a sense of community throughout our school. The pictures capture the excitement, smiles, and learning that took place in such a short amount of time! Moments like these remind us that learning goes beyond the classroom and that even the simplest activities can make a lasting impact. We were excited to welcome the Philly Fire Department, “The Quakers,” to Philly Primary for an important and fun-filled Fire Prevention Week visit! Our firefighters showed students some of their new equipment and demonstrated how it is used during an emergency. Students also learned important fire safety tips and had the opportunity to see firsthand the tools and gear our community firefighters use to keep us safe. And, of course, every student received a firefighter hat and became an Honorary Fire Chief! A huge THANK YOU to the Philly Fire Department for taking the time to educate, inspire, and connect with our students. We are grateful to have such a committed community partner supporting the students and families of Philly Primary!

Our first graders had a wonderful time on their field trip to Applewood Orchards! Students enjoyed a fun-filled day playing on the playground, picking their own apples, exploring the corn maze, and choosing a pumpkin to take home. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and excitement as the children experienced all the fun of fall at the orchard. It was a beautiful day filled with special memories, and everyone had a great time!

Can anyone guess who put these special words in the spider web?
Our Kindness Wall is officially finished, and it looks fantastic! Thank you to everyone who has helped make it such a meaningful part of our Charlotte’s Web journey.

This week, our younger learners will have some special visitors! Our second and third graders will be buddy readers, spending time with our younger students and reading books about kindness, as well as other fun and interesting topics. We are excited to see our older students serve as positive role models while sharing their love of reading!

Friday was Custodial Staff Recognition Day, and we want to take a moment to give a very special THANK YOU to our outstanding custodial and cleaning team, April, David, and Angie! Your commitment, hard work, and attention to detail are appreciated every day, but especially after everything our school has been through during our major construction project. Because of your efforts, our building is clean, safe, organized and ready for learning. We truly appreciate everything you do behind the scenes to make our school a welcoming and positive place for everyone.

Week 2: Chapters 7-13: During Week 2 of Philly Primary School’s One Book, One School experience, students continue their journey through Charlotte’s Web and explore The Power of Words. As students read Chapters 7–13, they learn about the special messages Charlotte creates in her web and how words can communicate important ideas about others. Throughout the week, students are introduced to special “web words” connected to positive character traits, including words such as Amazing, Brave, Kind, and Helpful. Vocabulary words are displayed throughout the hallways, giving students opportunities to see, discuss, and think about the meaning of each word. One new word is introduced at a time through school announcements, encouraging students to look for the word displayed in the school and think about what it means. Families are encouraged to continue following the One Book, One School reading calendar at home. Keeping up with the assigned chapters helps families stay connected to what is happening at school and gives everyone an opportunity to talk about the story, characters, vocabulary, and important lessons together. We are excited to continue building a school-wide love of reading one chapter and one word at a time! Please keep in mind that this is an interactive learning activity for families so reading the book to your children is appropriate. We hope the comprehension questions that have been sent home assists with checking for understanding. Please note, these are not mandatory. Happy reading! More word photos to come!

Charlotte’s Web Chapters 1-6! Our first week focused on Friendship Begins and the important lesson of kindness and helping others. As students read Chapters 1-6, they learned how Fern stood up for Wilbur and demonstrated compassion, courage, and kindness. Students participated in a Kindness Pledge Wall. They were the “I” in kindness! Students received colorful blank hearts where they wrote or drew ways they could show kindness to others. The hearts created a bright and colorful display that served as a reminder that even small acts of kindness could make a big difference. Through reading and discussion, Week 1 encouraged students to think about what it meant to be a good friend, help others and contribute to making Philly Primary a kinder place. Thank you so much for supporting our program!!

Philly Primary School celebrated the kickoff of our One Book, One School: 🕷️🐷Charlotte’s Web🐖🕸️ adventure on Friday! Families joined us for a short assembly where we shared how this interactive family literacy experience will unfold over the next 30 days. Following the assembly, students and families headed outside for a fun, fair-style celebration on the lawn! Students enjoyed playing games, visiting activity stations, spending time with friends, and enjoying some refreshments as we kicked off this exciting school-wide reading adventure.

A huge thank-you to all of our staff, families, and community members who helped make this event possible. It truly takes a team to create special experiences like this for our students, and we are grateful for everyone who helped make the day such a success! Just a reminder:

Beep! Beep! Make Way!

Today, a very special visitor rolled into Philly Primary, The Little Blue Truck! He came rumbling down the road, ready to meet some brand-new friends in Pre-K. Little Blue may be almost 78 years old, but don’t let his age fool you! He still has plenty of pep in his wheels and loves nothing more than leaving his cozy garage, hitting the road, and making new friends along the way. He brought lots of smiles, a few happy “beep beeps,” and a whole lot of Blue Truck magic to our youngest learners! Thanks for stopping by, Little Blue! We’re so glad you came to visit!
