Opening night for Evolution / Revolution was filled with family, friends and plenty of young artist pride!✨

This summer, young artists in Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Career Connected Learning Philadelphia (C2L-PHL) program spent six weeks exploring mural-making, activism and how art can be used to imagine and advocate for the world they want to see.

Their ideas came together across eight collaborative banners, now on display inside Philadelphia City Hall.

Take a look back at opening night and hear from some of the people who helped shape the program this summer, including a young artist who experienced it firsthand.

There’s still time to experience the work for yourself!

LOVE Park is shining a little brighter!

Last week, we gathered to celebrate artist David Guinn’s latest work with Mural Arts Philadelphia, a new lighted mural transforming “The Love Shack” shipping container at LOVE Park.

The project continues David’s exploration of art and light, coming to life as day turns to night.

Point Breeze knows how to show up! 💛🫂

We celebrated the dedication of Community Cares, a new mural by artist Serena Saunders created in partnership with the Point Breeze Business Association, and the neighborhood brought all the energy.

From Double Dutch and fresh braids to giving the community their flowers (literally 💐), cooling down with water ice, good food and even better company, the Ave was full of joy.

And the fun doesn’t stop here! Every Thursday from 3–7 PM, the Point Breeze Community Market brings the Ave to life with local vendors, food and plenty of community.

Come for the market, stay for the community, and check out Community Cares while you’re there. 💛

“The viewer senses some kind of absence…you get a sense of that loss.”

The artist Jesse Krimes recently sat down with PBS NewsHour’s Jeffrey Brown to share his practice and motivation for creating his Elegy Quilt series. Krimes discusses the impact incarceration has had on his own life and what it means to challenge the harmful stigma that impedes reintegration.

Currently on view at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia, Jesse Krimes: Elegy Quilts brings together works examining memory, incarceration, home, and belonging. The show debuts "Riverside," a new work shaped through Krimes's collaboration with participants in the Mural Arts Restorative Justice program.

Elegy Quilts is on view with free admission at FWM through November 1.

The Gusset Project has brought community-made art to familiar spaces beneath the El, transforming a 1.2-mile stretch of Kensington Ave through the creativity of neighborhood residents.

Heart of Kensington Creates is a cross-sector, community-centered arts initiative in collaboration with Councilmember Quetcy Lozada’s Office and Impact Services. Thank you to all those who contributed!
