Join Sara Mierke and the great team at Champions of Caring for a virtual workshop on MLK Day. They're introducing an Empowerment Guide they've been working on and doing a sprint to help people go from PASSION to ACTION.
Their message:
You’re never too young or too old to make a difference - or launch your own intergenerational social impact project! At Champions of Caring (CoC) we foster understanding and peace in society by helping people create change in their communities.
On Monday, January 15, we'll introduce The CoC Empowerment Guide, share a few key activities that will help you jump start a project of your own, and introduce you to a network of changemakers.
Our dynamic approach integrates three core elements:
- Intergenerational collaboration and action
- Service and social impact
- Universal lessons of the Holocaust and all forms of genocide

Happy holidays from Sara and Segun!
Here’s three tips from us on how to engage your neighbours this season. 1. Support a nearby mutual aid organization
2. Shop at local small businesses
3. Attend a cultural event of a tradition different than your own.

At Anchor Schools, Thanksgiving has arrived as we commemorate two fruitful years of dedication to making schools more community-centered and equity-focused. Without our partners and the schools we have represented over the past two years, we would not be where we are today. Here is to Mysa, Watershed School, St. Stephen's and St. Agnes, Glenmede, and all of the Anchor Lab schools for being part of the journey so far. We are eager to continue developing an equity audit that schools can utilize to assess their impact on their communities in the year ahead.
With gratitude,
Sara Mierke and Segun Olagunju

As we head into the weekend and, perhaps more importantly, the start of the school year when a break seems far off, the work of Equity Meets Design on rest is important food for thought. And design. How does your school or work place create the conditions for real, rejuvenating rest? At Anchor Schools we're working from 4 different time zones, so aligning work time and rest time can be tricky, especially with all the late nights and/or early mornings and the expediency of using apps to communicate. Segun Olagunju, I hope you get some real REST this weekend (did I mention kids in the mix?!).
Equitably designing for REST
We know y’all have endured several not-so-humble brags about how we take 2+ paid months off per year simultaneously as a team 🤣 Real talk: labor is a pretty huge equity issue and ergo so is rest, which is why it was so important to our founder, Dr. Christine Marie Ortiz Guzman, for our team to ...
