Believe it or not school starts back for my students in about a month. I work at a Title 1 school in Philadelphia, where I get the honor of teaching students who look just like me. Something that as a kid growing up I did not have! Living my dream is an understatement.

With educational budget cuts tightening nationwide, I want to make sure my students have the best learning experience as well as bridge the gap in educational disparities as much as I can, where I am. Happy March!! We’re ending RP3 off with focus, and anticipation for RP4! We’re mostly through the year, so students really need to focus especially with Benchmarks coming up!

This month’s 8th Grade Incentive: Movie Madness!!
• Students who have been doing all the right things will be invited to a movie day at the end of the month to celebrate their accomplishments.

The final dues payment ($150 total) is due on Thursday, 3/27/25.

Happy Black History Month!! We’re starting RP3 off with a bang! We’re halfway through the year, so students really need to focus on showing up, showing out, and showing us what excellence looks like!

The Black History Month Programming at Pickett this year will be happening every Thursday in the month with themed dress down days (No tights/leggings, hats, ski masks, shorts, revealing clothing, inappropriate words or images. Jeans with holes must be worn with leggings underneath) and sessions for students to participate in. Any student not participating in the designated theme must be in full uniform.

We want students to finish off the Report Period strong, so focusing and getting those grades up is a major priority. When we come back from Winter break, we have Benchmarks so going into break strong will be super important. Interim Progress Reports come out on Wednesday 12/4, so please look out for those. The first 8th Grade dues payment is coming up on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Dues letters will be sent home with students and sent out on parent square (Comment “Dues” for the link). Majorette Auditions are here!!

7-11 graders come out to audition for Pickett’s majorette team THIS TUESDAY (12/3/24) from 4 pm - 6 pm.

PLEASE COME IN ALL BLACK and ready to dance. We will start promptly at 4 pm! You will learn 2 dances and if time permits have a chance to freestyle.

REQUIREMENTS
• MUST have attendance at or above 90%
• MUST be available Tuesdays from 4pm - 6 pm & Saturdays from 9am - 12pm
• MUST be in 7th - 11th grade NO EXCEPTIONS
• MUST come ready to learn EVERY time

Or usual meetings will be Tuesdays 4 - 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 12 pm. More information will be dispersed at auditions and once the team is formed.

RP2 has begun and we are excited to start new units and with new classes for some of us.

It is a fresh start and students are encouraged to come to office hours and get the help and support they need early, to set themselves up for success.

Report Card Conferences are next week on Wednesday, 11/13/24 from 1:30 - 6:00 pm. Please lookout for contact from a teacher on our team, or feel free to reach out to schedule your time.

• 75 or higher in all classes
• No head down or off task demerits
• Golden Homework Pass on 11/8 (RP1 grades) and 11/29 (RP2 grades)

It’s time for the first middle school dance and we’re having a Monster Ball! Be on your best behavior to join us for the first of many dances this year!

Time: 6 - 9 pm ; Doors Close at 7:30 pm
Where: Pickett’s Cafeteria (Enter brought the breakfast doors on Wayne)
Tickets: $5 in Advance OR $10 at the door

There will be concessions sold.

Costumes are encouraged, but remember no masks, weapons of any sort, or overly revealing costumes.

Permission slips go out this week and are due no later than 10/22 to Ms. TB in 218 or Ms. Schultz in 320.

Happy October!!!

RP1 is coming to an end and we are excited for scholars to show us all they have learned in the coming weeks.

Now is the time to makeup work, stay for office hours, and get help with concepts you don’t understand, before it’s too late.

Benchmarks are T-minus 2 weeks AND final RP1 grades come out at the end of the month! Let’s stay on our A game!

AND our first middle school dance is coming!! 🎃

WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER!!

This is our first full month of school! We are excited for our very first dance at the end of the month and to see all of our guardians at Back to School Night on Thursday, 9/19.

Also Hispanic Heritage Month starts this month! Look out for more information.

This months incentive is French Fry Friday! Students can earn this by having no Late demerits and no disruption demerits in classes.

Some updates:
• Students must be in full uniform starting this week, or will receive a consequence!
• Students must have their school supplies off all classes starting 9/3.
• Detentions start this week
° MTWF 3:20-3:40 pm
° W Kickboard Detention 3:20 - 4:20 pm
° No detention on Thursdays
• Remind your 8th grade scholar to turn their phones in to their last period teacher. An automatic detention will be incurred if they are caught with it. This was explained during orientation, and we want to enforce it together.
