Our toddlers have been working hard on listening to and following 3-step directions, while also learning to complete activities more independently. We have been modeling what to do, and they have been doing an awesome job following through and completing their work on their own!

Today, our word of the day was “watering can.” The children explored the word, found and matched rectangles on the watering can (our shape of the week), and then colored their watering cans in.

Activities like these help teach multiple skills at once — listening, following directions, shape recognition, vocabulary, focus, and independence — all while helping prepare them for the expectations and routines of the Pre-K room. We are so proud of how much our toddlers are growing and learning each day!

For our shape practice activity, the children painted hair on a horse! They used black paint to draw the horse’s hair, which practiced fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity. Activities like these help children strengthen the small muscles in their hands while also reinforcing our shape of the week in a fun and engaging way!

The preschoolers took a walk and created nature bracelets at the same time. Picking up pieces of nature not only helps them explore their environment, but also strengthens their observation skills, creativity, and connection to the world around them. This hands-on activity encourages sensory learning, fine motor development, and an appreciation for the beauty found in everyday outdoor experiences. 🌿

Today the toddler room Pet Store officially opened! 🐾🐶🐠

As part of our weekly theme, we introduced a brand-new dramatic play station where the children explored the world of pets and animal care. The kiddos had a ball feeding, grooming, and pretend playing with a variety of animals including turtles, snakes, birds, cats, dogs, and fish!

While it looked like simple fun, this type of play teaches so many important early learning skills. Dramatic play helps toddlers build language and communication skills as they talk about animals, actions, and care routines. It encourages social skills like sharing, taking turns, cooperation, and empathy as they learn how to care for living things.

The pet store also supported fine motor development through scooping food, brushing animals, and handling small play items. Pretend play strengthens imagination, problem-solving, creativity, and cognitive development while helping children make connections to real-life experiences.

Most importantly, the children were engaged, laughing, learning, and exploring through hands-on play — which is exactly how toddlers learn best!

🔷 Shape of the Day: Diamond! 🔷

Today our kiddos focused on the diamond shape through a fun, hands-on activity! Using a puncher, they worked to remove stickers—building hand strength and fine motor skills. Then, with great focus, they used their eye-hand coordination to place the stickers right along the lines to trace their diamonds.

This activity supported:
✨ Fine motor development
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Shape recognition
✨ Focus and following directions

Making shapes fun through hands-on discovery helps children truly understand and remember what they’re learning. And today, they did an amazing job shining bright like diamonds! 💎

Matching is one of our skills of the week! We had fun during a transition game playing “sock math.” 🧦 The kiddos used visual discrimination skills along with focus and memory to find and match pairs, building early math, problem-solving, and attention skills.
