Commitment to Our Community
My family and I have been residents of the Frankford community for twenty-three years. We are extremely involved in our children’s daily activities and extra-curricular activities.
Here is a brief list of our contributions:
• In 2006, a group of community members joined forces to organize a block town watch where I volunteered as the secretary and group organizer.
• Assist youths in our community and the surrounding area with administrative skills training, job search, teen-parent mentoring, providing a secure and safe haven for teens, youths and parents that were evicted. We helped secure facilities that specialized in GED and diploma completion.
• I organized a group of youths to participate in community activities during the week and on weekends while parents were working. Keeping them safe active and off the streets.
• Our oldest son, now thirty, was an active volunteer member of the community. Tony began his community involvement at the age of ten as a camp counselor for New Frankford Community Center (formerly known as Frankford Community YWCA)
• Our oldest daughter Anjayla (Jayla), now twenty-three, has consistently volunteered her time to tutor children who struggle with reading and writing, she also assisted with administrative needs during the town watch development. She was active at developing fundraising activities for her drill team Post 224. Jayla stepped up as a team leader and president of the Kids Country Club (KCC) She led youths on outings, trips and community clean-ups. In 2009 she started her own organization called Big Sis Little Sis Weekend watcher. The goal of the organization was to provide children of single and low income homes a day off to relax and take some time for themselves while their child/ren spent time doing girly activities at Big Sis Little Sis Weekend care. In 2017 and 2018 Jayla helped support Determine Women Of God (D.W.O.G.) during their start-up phase and varies community events, she helped deliver food to community members homes that were donated to L.G.M.F. from D.W.O.G. and Faith Assembly.
• Our second oldest son Ling, now twenty-six, also volunteered for LGMF and AEELAC he led youth on outings, trips and community clean-ups. Ling was sixteen when he became a part of our family.
• Our six youngest children, the ages of 12,11,8,8,8 &6, helped support D.W.O.G. with their community events (helping set up and clean up, helping feed the homeless and pack winter items for them), delivering bags of groceries and food to community members’ homes.
We are very proud of the strength, leadership, willingness to help others, and the giving of themselves our children has exhibited. We have and are raising, not only young men and young ladies with excellent citizenship, a sense of community pride and commitment, but our next generation of leaders.
