The Farm at Wyncote Academy is selling Christmas trees as a fundraiser. We have Douglass fir trees (6-8 ft. in height). Prices from $60-$80 per tree. The tree sale - which will be held at our Elkins Park farm - starts this Friday evening (5:00-7:00 PM). Sales will continue every night from 5:00-7:00 PM for as long as supplies last.
Come celebrate the season and support Wyncote Academy!

Wyncote Academy has always valued and promoted experiential learning. Recently, our students have have been fortunate to work with Susana Hormann, the founder of Domus Nodus, a mobile educational wood workshop. Susana has taught woodworking skills to elementary, middle, and high school students.
Over the course of the past month, Wyncote students have been working with Susana to build 9 benches to provide outdoor seating at Wyncote Academy's farm. They are also building a freestanding vegetable stand that will be used to display Wyncote's fresh produce at several local farmers markets.
Many thanks to Susana Hormann and Wyncote staff Ally Schonfeld, Nick Lodise, Angelic Gilchrist, Bruce Weiner, and Doug Godfrey for helping to support the woodworking initiative.

It takes a team to protect Wyncote Academy's flock of egg layers in a suburban neighborhood filled with wild predators...including hawks, foxes, raccoons, and mink. Keiko, our guard goose has worked tirelessly to protect the hens. We know that he has thwarted countless attacks. Despite his best efforts, though, there have been losses.
We have recently added Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Man to the mix, and that attacks have come to a complete halt. Grateful for the Keiko-Tube Man tag team!!

The market garden at the Farm at Wyncote Academy produced a bountiful yield this season. Our top two bumper crops, by far, were okra and eggplant. Over the course of two months, our students harvested more than 700 lbs. of eggplant.
We are pleased to share some our some of our bounty (a crate full of surplus eggplant) with the Sisters of St. Basil in Jenkintown. The Sisters do wonderful work operating a food pantry and providing food to families and individuals experiencing food scarcity.
The photo below features three of our student farmers (Trinity, Jahlil, and Joe), science instructor and farm educator, Ally Schonfeld (second from right), and Wyncote Academy board chair, Jane Zegestowsky, (far right). Jane facilitated the connection between Wyncote Academy and the Sisters of St. Basil.

Join us as we celebrate the end of the 2024 fall harvest (a kid-friendly event). There will be cider-pressing, pumpkin decorating, and making smores over the fire pit.

While school may not officially be in session, Wyncote Academy students continue to work on our farm over the summer. Our students get paid through partnerships with several youth summer work programs in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
We are in the midst of the season of abundance. See images of Wyncote students harvesting produce to to be sold at our farmers' market locations in North Philadelphia, Germantown, and Jenkintown or distributed through our CSA program.
Many thanks to our farmers/educators Nick Lodise and Ally Schonfeld for their tireless devotion to our students and the farm (which provides such rich experiential learning for our students).
Many thanks to Bernice Goll for the wonderful photos!
