I teach classical piano lessons to beginning and intermediate students. My goal is to provide a solid foundation to beginning students to prepare them for a successful musical journey. I stress music theory and teach students to recognize intervals and analyze music. I am patient and work well with both kids and adults and really enjoy seeing someone develop their talent. I have studied piano most of my life and have myself taken lessons from a Curtis graduate and educator in Philadelphia for the past 5 years to continually develop my own musicality and technique. I have had success with the Piano Safari method and theory books, and also use the Faber Piano Adventures method books for beginning students. Of course I also assign supplemental pieces tailored to student interests that are level appropriate. I take an approach to help teach theory from the earliest stages and help students recognize patterns in music and develop a cantabile style of playing. I try to help students think musically rather than just seeing notes on a page. I also work to help students understand how to practice effectively, which is key to making progress. I also studied Alexander Technique for a number of years and try to help students avoid postural habits that can hinder their playing and cause discomfort over the long term. I can do lessons both at my house in Washington West and am happy to travel to at home lessons, provided there aren't too many major distractions in the house. I also am happy to do lessons using Skype, Zoom or Facetime, especially during the pandemic. I am a member of Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association (PMTA), which is a state affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). I have a natural desire to learn and challenge myself to stay up to date and to continuously learn to be a more effective pianist and teacher. *Note: I am fully vaccinated for COVID19 as of April 8, 2021 and can only meet in person with households where parents/adults are fully vaccinated as well.
