Thanks to an endowed scholarship, Calvin Rayfield has his dream come true.

According to his mother, Calvin had just one thing on his Christmas list this year. “He said he would do anything to attend St. Joseph’s Prep — that it was the only thing he was going to ask for.”

Just before the holidays, Calvin was accepted to the Prep, and then came the life-changing news: he had been selected as one of the Howley Scholars for the Class of 2030, receiving a full-tuition scholarship made possible by the generosity of Prep alumnus Nick Howley ’70, his wife Lorie, and The Howley Foundation.

Stephen Abrams, the Prep's Vice President for Admissions and Enrollment Management, was featured in this week's Philadelphia Business Journal's "Table of Experts: The future of private schools."

Mr. Abrams discussed how:

- "Content expertise, adolescent development, and a mastery of boys' education are the three pillars that we lean into every day at the Prep"

-In a world impacted by "the erosion of deep thought brought on by the 'reel' culture ... there is a framework within Jesuit education that is a great place to begin the conversation ... at its core, Ignatian education prioritizes depth of learning over the mere breadth of information. It insists that each educational encounter begins with a student’s personal context, ensuring that learning is an integrated experience rather than a series of fragmented moments. Anchoring the curriculum here empowers educators to create spaces for intellectual curiosity and, at times, friction. In a world of instant gratification, this framework intentionally slows the pulse inquiry, allowing for students to wrestle with and reflect on big thoughts and ideas."
