✨Let’s talk COMMON APP!✨
First off, do NOT get scared if you have not started yet! You still have time to create an amazing application by January 1, but the earlier you start, the better!
To get started with your Common Application, work with your guidance department or a trusted adult to set up your application and create an account. Feel free to reach out to us if you need help!
Once your account is created, you are READY to start filling it in!
Research some schools that fit what YOU want out of your college degree, and consider your GPA, standardized test scores, preferred location, areas of study (i.e. majors), cost/tuition, financial aid, and more. Once you’ve selected your schools, add them to your application.
Then, start filling in your information. There are some parts of the application that get sent to all of the schools, and there are some parts that only get sent to the specific school it is for. If you have questions, reach out!
You also have to write some essays! There is the Personal Statement, which is a longer essay where you can share something about yourself, and it gets sent to all of your schools. There are also other shorter supplements that you write for each individual school, but it depends on where you choose to apply.
Lastly, make sure many people look over your application! Get friends, family, teachers, counselors, and as many other people as you can to read over your essays, look at your information, and help make sure that you are putting forth your BEST possible application. It’s a difficult process, but you CAN do this, and we believe in you.
Good luck! Contact us if you have any questions!

~WELCOME TO FIRST MENTORS~
First Mentors was created by University of Pennsylvania students to provide college prep resources and academic assistance to first-generation, low-income students.
We know the hardship that first-generation, low-income students face throughout high school and especially while beginning the process of college applications. As students at Penn, we believe that it is our responsibility to give back to the community by providing services to students in the West Philadelphia Community and beyond. Currently, we are partnered with Moder Patshala, an afterschool program in Philly to provide mentoring, tutoring, and college prep workshops to Bangladeshi-American students and are always looking to expand to other colleges and cities.
OUR SCHEDULE for this semester is as follows:
✨SAT/ACT tutoring Mondays and Wednesdays; 4-7 pm EST
✨AP/IB/Honors/Subject Tests tutoring Tuesdays and Thursdays; 4-6 pm EST
✨Mental Wellness Workshops Fridays; one-hour sessions followed by a 30-minute Q&A panel
COMING SOON:
✨Penn Alumni Career Development Panel
✨Financial Aid workshops
This semester, mentors will also be teaching workshops on Fridays about topics that they are passionate about (not necessarily academic) because balance is important!
We would love to have you join our team, click the link in our bio for more information on getting involved📚✏️
