The field of Computer Science is constantly evolving, and so are we. Introducing the new Master of Applied Science in Computer Science degree program: MAS-CS builds on the legacy of MCIT, one of Penn Engineering's most successful pathways into computer science for students from non-CS backgrounds.

The MAS-CS program delivers rigorous computer science foundations in programming, systems, algorithms, and software design— preparing graduates to build, scale, and lead in technically complex, rapidly evolving environments.

Michael Hicks on Building Safer Software and a Better Practices in Cybersecurity 02/09/2026

Professor Michael Hicks proposes that "improving cybersecurity isn’t just about better code, it’s about better science, and ultimately, better lives for people.”

Under his expertise and leadership, our new MSE-SSC program will produce engineers who are capable of innovating important solutions that our world can rely on. Hicks serves as co-director of the MSE-SSC program — a master's degree in Software Systems and Cybersecurity, offered both on campus and online.
