A lot of CACFP and NSLP leaders were never told to think of themselves as business managers.

You were trained to feed children, meet requirements, support staff, and keep the program moving.

But behind every meal served, there are budgets, documentation, procurement decisions, staffing needs, and systems that have to hold everything together.

That is a lot to carry.

The strongest child nutrition leaders I know aren't struggling because they care too little.

They're struggling because they've been carrying too much for too long.

Over time, many CACFP and NSLP programs become dependent on one person to remember every process, answer every question, solve every problem, and keep everything moving.

That's not a leadership failure.
It's a systems challenge.
