The Texas House Bill 1481, passed during the 89th Legislative Session and signed into law on June 20, 2025, requires all Texas school districts to adopt a policy prohibiting the use of cell phones and personal communication devices during the school day to improve academic outcomes and classroom behavior.
This policy applies to ALL personal communication devices—such as cell phones, smartwatches, iPads/tablets, META glasses, wireless earbuds, and other similar technology.
What does this mean? All PSJA ISD students must follow these procedures daily before entering ANY classroom:
OFF & AWAY
From the moment students enter their campus until the final dismissal bell, cell phones must be powered off and stored away.
Parents, please review these expectations with your child before the first day of school. In case of an emergency, contact the school directly. In emergency situations, the administration may approve the use of personal devices when necessary.
Exceptions to Policy
Students with a documented medical need or approved learning accommodation (e.g, use of a personal device for assistive technology) must coordinate arrangements through the school administration and their 504/IEP team.
