August is National Wellness Month.

What if we thought about wellness not just as something we do for ourselves, but as something we help create for one another?
Dr. Bruce Perry’s Regulate → Relate → Reason sequence offers a powerful way to think about how we create environments where people can feel safe, connected, supported, and ready to engage.

So, what can we actually do?
REGULATE
• Reduce unnecessary stressors and distractions.
• Slow the pace when someone is overwhelmed.
• Create predictable routines and clear expectations.
• Pause before responding when emotions are high.
• Help bring attention back to the present moment.

RELATE
• Be present and genuinely listen.
• Notice people and acknowledge their experience.
• Lead with curiosity rather than assumptions.
• Offer connection before correction.
• Give people a voice in decisions that affect them.
• Repair relationships when there has been a rupture.

REASON
• Don't expect problem-solving when someone is overwhelmed.
• Give people time to process information.
• Ask questions that invite reflection rather than demand an immediate answer.
• Break complex information and decisions into manageable steps.
• Collaborate on solutions rather than simply giving directions.

Creating a culture of wellness starts with small moments. These everyday interactions help create environments where people can regulate, relate, reason—and ultimately thrive.

This National Wellness Month, consider asking yourself:
What is one small thing I can do today to make the environment around me a little more safe, connected, and supportive?

Based on the work of Dr. Bruce D. Perry and the Neurosequential Model.

Finally got to work with this incredible group in-person after three years of meeting virtually! It was wonderful to connect face-to-face with such a dedicated team of educators who are making a real difference for students and families across the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES region in New York.

Thank you for your engagement, your passion, and the important work you do every day. Looking forward to continuing the journey together!

If you're looking for engaging professional development on trauma-informed care, child development, and educator or caregiver well-being, Daniel Educational Services is here to help.

We just returned from the The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) conference and are feeling inspired! It was a privilege to facilitate a session on recognizing the impact of abuse and neglect in young children, identifying the signs, responding with trauma-informed practices, and protecting our own wellbeing along the way.

Our trainings go beyond theory. We combine real-world experience with practical tools, actionable strategies, engaging activities, and meaningful conversations that participants can immediately apply in their work.

Thank you to everyone who participated and for the incredible work you do every day to help young children feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive.

Kudos to Daniel Educational Services trainers Sara Radke Daniel Diana Billstrom and Yimma Davila-Castro who conducted sessions in both English and Spanish.

As Pride Month comes to a close, our commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and affirming schools should continue every day of the year.

Every student deserves to feel seen, respected, and valued. Every educator deserves to feel safe to be their authentic selves.

We can all make a difference by:
• Creating classrooms where every student feels they belong.
• Using inclusive language and practices.
• Speaking up when we witness bullying, discrimination, or exclusion.
• Listening to and learning from LGBTQIA+ students, families, and colleagues.
• Continuing to learn, reflect, and grow.

Pride may have a designated month, but belonging is a commitment we make all year long.

I walked away from a two-day training and planning session with the leadership team at Rib Lake School District feeling truly inspired.

Their commitment to continuous improvement, student and staff wellbeing, and building a culture of resilience is evident in every conversation and decision they make. Together, we explored strategies to strengthen supportive environments where students and staff can thrive, learn, and grow.

It is always energizing to work alongside leaders who are willing to reflect, learn, and take meaningful action to create positive change. Thank you, Rib Lake School District, for your dedication, vision, and partnership in this important work.

Daniel Educational Services was honored to provide a bilingual training on resilience and emotional regulation for young children with the dedicated team at the La Causa, Inc. Early Education & Care Center.

Supporting social-emotional development in early childhood helps build strong foundations for learning, relationships, and lifelong success.

Thank you for by colleagues Yimma Davila-Castro and Diana Billstrom for your expertise and to Lydia Reaves for the opportunity!

Your regulated presence matters. One well-regulated, caring person in someone’s life can make all the difference in healing and wellbeing.

That was the focus of my training with the incredible staff of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Wellbeing for All: A Trauma-Informed Approach.

Together, we explored how stress and trauma shape the brain and body, and how authentic connection, co-regulation, and compassion can foster healing, resilience, and hope.

Thank you for the work you do each day to support individuals and families with compassion, dignity, and care. Your presence matters more than you know. Thank you to Carey Jacobsen and Paul Eberle for your leadership!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We all face stress, challenges, and moments when we need support.

A kind word, a caring conversation, or simply checking in can make a difference. Support may look like therapy, trusted relationships, rest, or just knowing you are not alone.

This month, let’s take small steps to support ourselves and others:
-Check in on someone for absolutely no reason
-Talk openly with others about mental health
-Make time for rest and self-care
-Choose empathy and kindness – you never know what someone else is going through

Healing happens in relationships. Reach out to someone today.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Daniel Educational Services table at the Wisconsin Family Child Care Association Conference!

This was our first time tabling at the conference, and we are incredibly grateful for the connections, conversations, and warm welcome from so many dedicated professionals.

A huge thank you to Diana Billstrom, who kept our table energized all day with her outgoing personality, relationship-building, and amazing networking skills — even if she wouldn’t let me take her picture!

We loved sharing information about our many professional learning opportunities available in both English and Spanish, all focused on supporting emotional regulation, resilience, trauma-informed practices, and wellbeing for children, families, and educators.
