Deacon, Josiah and Corbin participated in the District X (Ten) Welding Career Development event at the Vincennes University Welding Department. They were required to perform a weld test with SMAW and GMAW processes as well as take a comprehensive test over welding practices and theory.

UPDATE: ​Deacon Jenkins, Josiah Ross and Corbin Traylor competed in the advanced division of the District FFA Welding Career Development Event at VU. The team of Josiah and Corbin placed 2nd, qualifying them for state competition and Josiah placed first overall in the contest, which consists of a welding practicum and written exam. They will be competing at the state competition at J. Everett Light Career Center in Indianapolis on January 17th.

The Pike Central FFA Forestry team competed in the Area 4-H FFA Forestry Career Development Event at Vincennes University. The contest tested participant's knowledge of forestry with an identification section and a test. The team of Josiah Ross, Chloe Howard, Makayla Kapp and Myah Recker placed 7th overall and 1st alternate to the state contest. Josiah placed FIRST individually and qualified for state. The team had time before the contest to visit the George Rogers Clark Memorial and Park to identify trees before the contest began.

At the National FFA Convention, students participate in competitive events, attend educational workshops and training sessions, and explore career opportunities at the expo. They also engage in community service projects, celebrate achievements with awards and ceremonies, and enjoy entertainment like concerts and talent shows. 6 members of Pike Central FFA participated this year and took full advantage of all convention had to offer. It is truly a life changing adventure!

These three wonderful FFA members competed in the State FFA Horticulture Career Development Event at the Purdue University Horticulture Department. They were tested on identification of tree, shrub, flower, fruit and vegetable specimens, evaluating groups of 4 horticultural products against one another, and general horticulture knowledge with a test. Congratulations on your success ladies!

Farmers are the backbone of the agricultural community and we are looking forward to serving our Dubois County Farmers warm meals as harvest season continues! You can request for meals to be delivered by filling out this Google Form: https://forms.gle/Pz7DQYFfZsTNAcqs6.

If you are having trouble with the form, feel free to reach out to any Jasper FFA member, advisor, or our social media pages to get signed up!

Not sure where you are going to be on October 16th? No problem! - In the interest form we ask for a good phone number to contact you so that we can deliver your meal to you on that day!

Hope to be done with harvest by October 16? Congratulations! - We will still deliver to shops and/or porches!

Our friends at Jasper FFA are offering a hot meal in the field program (not called that) for local farmers where they cook and deliver a hot meal to local farmers during harvest season as a way to say we appreciate you and want you to stay nourished and safe. If any Pike Central FFA followers know of farmers in eastern Pike County that may be interested in participating (for free), please let us know their names and phone contacts. GOOD NEWS!!!!!

Pike Central FFA is now an AFFILIATE Chapter! What does that mean? All 101 students in Agriculture Classes at Pike Central are now members of the National FFA Organization. FFA has been working to remove financial barriers to FFA membership for ag students and we are doing our part to facilitate that. Through the affiliate program, chapters are assessed a fee based on the number of ag students in their program and the chapter or sponsors are responsible for paying that fee, so students can join for free. We are working with a local sponsor to make this happen, but it is not complete yet, so we can't tell you who it is. If you, your business, or someone you know could help sponsor this great oppportunity for our students, please reach out to us by emailing [email protected] . By having all members enrolled in this INTRAcurricular organization, it will be much easier for students to engage in a well rounded agriculture and leadership program.
