Canvas Security Incident Update – May 8, 2026

Petersburg School District is aware of the cybersecurity incident affecting Canvas, the learning management system used by our schools. Instructure, the company that operates Canvas, temporarily took the platform offline on May 7th as a precautionary measure while addressing the issue.

Canvas is now fully restored and available for use by students and staff.

Instructure’s CEO has confirmed directly to Petersburg School District that there is no evidence that any PSD account credentials were compromised or that any additional data was taken from our institution.

And the winner of the Holiday Door Decorating Competition goes to the 6th grade class with Mrs. Corrao for their Mariah Carey “It’s Time” themed door!
A huge thank-you to all our middle schoolers for the creativity and effort they poured into their designs. It was wonderful to see so much collaboration, imagination, and excitement in the halls as we headed into Winter Break. Every door brought its own festive flair, and the school felt truly magical this week!

The last day of Holiday Spirit Week did not disappoint!
The festive sweaters worn by students and staff were bursting with color, creativity, and holiday cheer. From classic cozy knits to fabulously flashy “ugly” sweaters, the hallways were filled with smiles and laughter. It was the perfect way to wrap up a fun and spirited week and to head into winter break with warmth, joy, and community.
