This is Daryl Kluemper, 22-year teacher of agriculture at Pike Central. I am searching for potential new members for my Pike Central Ag Advisory Committee. It's a pretty low-pressure, low-commitment way you can help ensure local agriculture education programs stay alive and relevant. There are two meetings per year, either in-person or virtual. Background diversity is important, so don't feel like you won't fit in! The only qualification is to live in or do business in Pike County, Indiana. Please PRIVATE MESSAGE me for questions or more information.
Here is a general summary of the purpose of the committee:
A Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Committee is a broad-based group with representatives from education, industry, and the community at large that actively assists in planning and implementing career and technical education programs. Advisory committees collectively advise the program's educators and administrators on a variety of aspects of the program and provide valuable resources to the program. Advisory committees do not have administrative or policy-making authority, but they serve as valuable partners in the education process. Members are knowledgeable and interested volunteers who represent the community, its businesses, and families. By combining community expertise with educational know-how, advisory committees can assure that the program leads to multiple options for students after high school graduation.

I thought I would put something on here about our FFA shirt/hoodie order. Maybe we have some friends/alumni of FFA on here! Let me know if I can help!

Today in animal science classes, we are discussing the Hatch Act and Purdue Agriculture Centers around the state of Indiana. This is a great article showcasing some of the benefits of these real-world experiment stations.

The Grant County, Ind., farmer, who grows corn, soybeans and wheat on 580 acres near Marion, discovered how applying fungicide at exactly the right moment provided his wheat crop the protection it needed from fungal foes to grow stronger and more productive.

I'm excited about classes tomorrow! We've been learning about FFA, an integral part of our ag education program that all students, not just farmers or farm kids, can benefit from. Now it's time to dive into our subject matter in Plant & Soil Science, Landscaping, and Animal Science! Students will be getting books tomorrow and an introduction to their respective subjects. If you have a child in one of these classes, ask them what they're looking forward to in Ag class. It may be growing plants in our greenhouse, tasting animal products, learning while enjoying the outdoors in landscaping or something completely different. Whatever it is, we will be learning skills and knowledge that have real impact on human life and having fun doing it.

I'm opening the greenhouse tonight from 3:15-6pm. You may also shop by appointment from 11-noon weekdays. We have a good selection left, but it's been going fast. The kids and I are working on a picture catalog of our remaining inventory to aid customers in the shopping process. Thanks!
