From our PTSA:

We would like to congratulate Zoey and Talia for being selected for the PTSA Polly Klaas Memorial Scholarship. Polly loved music and we continue to honor her memory by offering two scholarships each year to graduating seniors who attended PJHS as students and who demonstrate a love and commitment to the performing arts.

From the Bantam Library:

Looking for another great reason for students to read this summer? Check out this summer reading program sponsored by Copperfield's Books!

"If you purchase a book [picture book, chapter book or graphic novel [new, or sale, not used] at Copperfield's in Petaluma you will be given a Tree Tracker card. Read the book and fill out your Tree Tracker card – with your name, the title of the book you read, and draw a picture of a tree. Bring your tree drawing to Copperfield's front counter. We'll put your drawing in the front window and 'grow' a rainforest AND we will donate money to One Tree Planted to literally plant a tree in the rainforest. All summer long."

**Please note: This is not a school or District event. As such, Petaluma City Schools District does not sponsor, staff, supervise, support or endorse the information, activities, or events post

It turns out our Bantams are also bardolators! (Bardolator: a person who idolizes Shakespeare.)

Last week, as we wrapped up our reading of The Outsiders, students studied and got to act out a scene from Romeo and Juliet. When the students asked for more, we spent the week with the star-crossed couple. While our parting may have been a "sweet sorrow," here are memories from Ms. Mantoani's period 5 class (reading Act 1, Scene 1) and period 2 class (reading Act 1, Scene 5).

We are starting to get excited about our upcoming author talk with Wendelin Van Draanen scheduled for May 24th. Our library assistants are busy making welcome signs which students can help color and paint in the library makerspace over the next few weeks.

Thank you Copperfield's Books for making this visit possible!

Welcome to the Bantam Beats record store where our special today is the Soundtrack to The Outsiders!

If you missed open house, students in Ms. Mantoani's English classes created soundtracks to The Outsiders. Soundtracks included a cover, a lyrics booklet, and explanations of how each song matched a character, theme, or plot element. This week, students are advertising their albums to their classes in a commercial. Classes are enjoying hearing the songs each student selected with music ranging from the mid 1900's to today.

Students in Mr. Lamansky's history class researched the contributions of women during the American Civil War. Our librarian, Ms. Hazen did a mini lesson on identifying reliable sources and then students read at least three sources and took notes about their historical figure. Finally they used supplies from our Library Makerspace to create trifold displays to share what they learned with others.

We would also like to give a special shout out to the members of the PJHS PTSA and the PTSA Teacher Mini Grant Program which paid for the oversized card stock used in this project.
