Wednesday Playgroup mornings at Sunbeam are for toddlers and the grown-ups stay. Hello song, the garden and the play yard, then a walk out to the chickens and the Grandmother Oak. Snack and a talk circle before everyone heads home. Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30am.

All ages, a caregiver on site, phones down. Parents get pulled into the land stewardship too. Drop-ins are open.

West Hills Ballet opens its fall session Monday, August 31, at Hermann Sons Hall on Western Ave. Miss Marie taught Royal Academy of Dance in Brooklyn for fifteen years before starting her own school here. Her rule is joy over competition.

Ages 2 through 18, pre-ballet up to pointe, plus modern and contemporary. Each level runs a full year of syllabus, so a level means something.

A different trail every Thursday afternoon, September through May. Field & Page takes Seattle kids ages 6 to 10 out for three hours on foot, with games, challenges, and enough room to decide for themselves what is worth climbing.

No phones, no smartwatches. They go out in the rain.

Sunbeam's morning program is running again on the two acres off Bodega Ave. Two days a week for homeschoolers ages 4 to 10, 9:30 to 2:00, with one experienced educator and a mixed-age group.

Play, tinkering, movement, and actual farm chores. Tending the animals, gardening, cooking, looking after the land. There is a sliding scale, and a parent co-op track for ages 2 to 4 where families share the teaching.

Veterans Day lands on a Wednesday this year, and Body English on Redwood Way is running a full gym day for it. Nine to two. Warm-up, skill stations, ninja warrior obstacle courses, parkour, then open gym to work on whatever they are chasing. Ages 4 to 9, grouped by age and level.

A pediatric speech-language pathologist runs Luma Littles for ages 1-4 and their caregivers at Bond Park in Petaluma. Session starts September 1 and class runs 10-11:15am for four weeks. Hello song, story time, sensory play, music and movement, then everyone spills onto the playground next door. Families leave with a Play & Grow card of things to try at home that week.

An after school class in Sonoma where curiosity sets the agenda. Each week kids ages 8 to 11 take on a building challenge, an experiment, or a messy art project, and figure it out together. Class is capped at eight so everyone gets a turn at the table. Room 116 at the Sonoma Community Center, 2:45 to 4pm, September through December. Drop-ins welcome.

Forty five minutes of singing, wiggling, and instrument play in Petaluma, for babies through age five and the grownup who brings them. The Fall semester runs ten weeks on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays starting September 16, at the Mercury Theater Studio. Demo classes run first, on September 2 and 9, if you want to try one before committing. Babies under eight months attend free alongside a sibling.

Three weeks of fall camp at Sunbeam Nature School in Petaluma, plus a Thanksgiving week: Sept 21-25, Sept 28 to Oct 2, Oct 5-9, and Nov 23-26. Two acres, entirely outdoors. Kids garden, tinker with loose parts, and help tend the guinea pigs and chickens. 9am to 2pm, with extended care after. Sliding scale rates are available.
