A signature part of the middle school experience at Spring Hill are the overnight field trips. Two of our core values, Experiential Learning and Global Engagement, are at the heart of why our teachers and parent volunteers organize and chaperone these memorable learning experiences for our students.

In the past month alone, our students have done the following trips:
-5th/6th grade: Outdoor Education at Rodeo Beach/Fort Cronkhite.
-7th grade: Ashland, OR - Shakespeare Festival.
-8th grade: Los Angeles - Museum of Tolerance.

This year, our students from preschool to 8th grade have participated in over FORTY excursions out into the community. Every single trip provides our students the opportunity to have a new door open to the world - something they might remember for decades to come.

We are grateful to our dedicated staff for their tireless commitment to this cherished practice at Spring Hill!

AMAZING NEWS!

For the first time in Spring Hill history, we are officially accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This designation is an essential - and expected - quality metric for independent schools. This initial accreditation period lasts three years, during which time we will conduct a full self-study to seek a six-year term.

Becoming accredited is not a simple checklist activity - it is a holistic deep dive into curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices, student learning and support, school culture, community engagement, organizational integrity, and strong governance. Earning accredited status means that a school is instructionally, operationally, and culturally sound, as well as having a clear understanding of its areas of needed growth and improvement.

This major accomplishment would not have been possible without the focused leadership of K-8 Division Head Jen Klem-Clarke, who created a thoughtful and actionable road map starting in August to get us ready for our site visit in March. It is a testament to the collaboration and teamwork of teachers and staff to contribute to our report. And it lays the groundwork for us to pursue accreditation through the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), another key quality metric that will further help us strengthen our practices.

While WASC studies focus specifically on TK-12 (and higher ed), this accomplishment represents the breadth and depth of our entire program, spanning toddler to 8th grade. Every member of our staff, faculty, administration, and Board has played a critical role in this important honor. The support we receive from our parent community is equally vital to our continued growth and evolution.

Congratulations to our incredible 8th grade class for hosting a fun and informative Global Citizenship Fair last week!

Students brought their research and learning to life, showing our school community, parents, and friends their creations. They became the teachers, educating others about important issues like: women’s mental health, immigration, butterfly conservation, sustainable nuclear energy, AI in education, rising sea levels in the Maldives, food insecurity in California, poetry and activism, mental health and gymnastics, health of the Chesapeake Bay, the impacts of violent video games, pink tax, and the importance of PE in schools. What a unique and incredible variety of topics!

Their lessons, brochures, handouts, activities, games, and ways of engaging young people of all ages were commendable. Perhaps the most powerful theme they walked away with centers on the fact that they are global citizens with strong work ethic, a voice, and the ability to impact/change their world.

With just six weeks left of middle school, these scholars continue to make us proud with their intelligence and perceptiveness.

The Sparrows class showed their best collection yet at this year’s Trashion Fashion show yesterday. Our primary students used recycled materials to create show stopping looks, reminding us that caring for the planet is always in style.

Care of the environment is a principle we live everyday in a classroom, from taking care of our materials, to gardening, to protecting every bug, lizard and leaf on our playground.

Special thanks to Ms Cara for creating and organizing Trashion Fashion, all the Sparrows parents who volunteered to set up, help students get dressed, and for attending the show!

Inspiring visit today with our K-4 students from winning artist , whose honor comes from her stunning work in the children’s book “Fireworks,” authored by Matthew Burgess. She discussed her artistic process and, even better, showed us by drawing in real time!

“Part of painting something is putting yourself in it. We all have a different voice.”

Thanks again to the amazing team for partnering with us to open new doorways to the imagination for our students! And congratulations to Cátia for this singular honor - the only recipient for this award year.

Joy. Community. Bouncy houses. Cotton candy and buttered popcorn. Magic show and giant bubbles. Morton the CA Desert Tortoise and Chucky the Carpet Python. Prizes. Babies. Grandparents. Freezing cold dunk tank water. US!

Our first ever Spring Hill Carnival was a smashing success thanks to - once again - our community coming together to create something unique. With close to 400 tickets sold, this truly was a showcase event for our one-of-a-kind school.

Immense gratitude goes to the dynamic planning duo of Tucker Ricioli and Allie Jorde. Tucker, our Exec Assistant/Celebration Planner, and Allie, our Community Association President, truly were the Dream Team in spearheading another groundbreaking inaugural event this year. Rumor has it Allie’s toddler dunked the Head of School multiple times...WE ARE FAMILY.

Huge thanks go out to our dedicated team of parents and staff who lent their time and talents to envisioning, and bringing to life, something new. Thanks as well to our many vendors, including .icecream, , , , and , whose student docents included a Spring Hill Alum!
