Last week, Petal High School senior Assiran Ba traveled to the state capital as part of the Secretary of State's Ambassadors program, where she discovered new ways to strengthen civic engagement in her community. Throughout the day, she had the opportunity to hear from several prominent political figures and to attend a panel discussion with the Secretary of State's Office. The day's highlight for her was a reverse Q&A session with Secretary of State Michael Watson, where discussion centered on ways Mississippi can continue to grow and improve. Among the key topics was the state's ongoing challenge with "brain drain," and the panel explored potential strategies to encourage more students to build their futures within Mississippi. Assiran described the experience as deeply insightful, and she is eager to bring the knowledge and ideas she gained back home to the city of Petal.
