Assumption Catholic School

We are fully accredited by the Commission on Elementary Schools - Middle States Association.

Assumption Catholic School is a small, diverse, family-oriented school which promotes Catholic values, academic distinction, higher order thinking, personal responsibility and knowledge of the Ukrainian Catholic Rite and heritage. ACS is conducted by the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption Parish and is staffed by the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God and dedicated lay teachers. Our

students come from Perth Amboy as well as from surrounding communities; including Monmouth, Somerset and Union Counties. ACS features a full-day Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) through 8th grade on a single campus. This offers a single drop-off and pick-up point for families with more than one elementary school child. Family-oriented with small class sizes; ACS promotes Catholic values, academic excellence, patriotism, individual thinking, personal responsibility, and civic duty. Recognizing the family as the heart of Catholic education, ACS values the role and contribution that parents make in obtaining the best educational opportunity for their child. 🎉 The Fourth Day of Fourth Grade! 🎉

Today was a FOUR-tastic day in fourth grade! To celebrate our fourth day of fourth grade, we enjoyed some special activities centered around the number 4.

The students used their creativity to decorate the number 4, completed fun fourth-grade activities, and had plenty of opportunities to laugh, learn, and work together. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our classroom community and all the exciting learning ahead!

What do ACS teachers do in their spare time? They become students themselves!

We welcomed the Liberty Science Center to ACS for an exciting, hands-on professional development session. Our teachers explored engaging science labs and learned new ways to use the supplies and resources we already have in our building.

Everyone joined in—even teachers who do not teach science—because science can be found in every subject and in so much of our daily lives. Science, technology, and innovation are shaping the future, and this year we look forward to introducing our students to important topics ranging from hands-on experimentation to artificial intelligence.

A special thank-you to Anthony Biscula from the Liberty Science Center for bringing the fun, sharing his knowledge, and working so wonderfully with our ACS teachers. We cannot wait to bring what we learned into our classrooms! 💙💛

At Assumption Catholic School, students have the wonderful opportunity to learn the Ukrainian language and culture with our Sisters in a fun, engaging, and meaningful environment. Through language, traditions, music, celebrations, and hands-on activities, our children discover the beauty of Ukrainian heritage while enjoying the joy of learning.

Today it was our youngest scholars’ turn! 💙💛 We welcomed our Pre-K through fourth-grade students to Assumption Catholic School, filling our halls with even more smiles and excitement!

There were a few tears at first, but after prayers and a little reassurance, everyone settled in for a wonderful morning. Students toured the building, practiced safety drills, and even made time for snack! 🍎

It was a busy morning of new faces, new routines, and new beginnings. With all our grades now welcomed, our ACS family is ready for a year of learning, friendship, and faith as we strive to know, to love, and to serve God! ✝️

What an exciting start to a new school year at Assumption Catholic School! 💙💛

From celebrating the Diocesan Mass for Catholic Schools on Tuesday to welcoming our middle school students in Grades 5–8 on their first day, our halls are once again filled with faith, energy, and excitement!

We are thrilled to begin another terrific year with many new faces, wonderful new teachers, and so much thoughtful planning already underway. Our ACS team is ready to make this a year filled with learning, growth, friendship, and faith.

Welcome back, ACS MS! Together, we begin another year striving to know, to love, and to serve God!

🍎 ACS teachers are in the building!

Our team spent a full day in professional development—setting academic and spiritual goals for the new school year, planning first-quarter events, and reviewing our safety and security protocols.

Teaching in a Catholic school is more than a profession—it is a calling. Our teachers educate minds, nurture hearts, model Christ’s love, and help every student grow closer to God. We are truly blessed to begin this year with a team of 10 excellent, highly qualified, full-time teachers who are ready to know, love, and serve God alongside their students.

We were grateful to have our Sisters join us, Father Ivan open our day in prayer, and Mrs. Shumny lead the meeting. We are excited, prepared, and looking forward to a wonderful year at ACS! 💙💛🙏

This week Mrs. Shumny and the ACS Middle School team—sixth-grade teacher Ms. Perez, seventh-grade teacher Ms. Cardona, and eighth-grade teacher Mrs. Garretson—spent the morning at St. Thomas Aquinas High School learning about admissions, exciting new programs, and touring the beautiful additions to the school.

Many ACS graduates continue their Catholic education at STA, where students can explore career pathways in business, law, nursing, engineering, and more. Their new Career Pathways Program was so impressive! We are proud that the strong academic and faith-filled foundation built at Assumption Catholic School prepares our students for these wonderful opportunities! 💙💛

Only 3 Weeks Until School Starts!
Our preparations continue as we complete several facility improvement projects in anticipation of the first day of school!
This week, our school parking lot was seal-coated by NextGen Great Sealcoating, helping protect the pavement, extend its lifespan, and preserve its appearance.
Inside the school, many improvements have also been completed by Volodymyr Derevenskiy and Roman:
✨ The cafeteria floors were professionally steam-cleaned.
✨ Electrical work and light bulbs in the auditorium were completed and replaced.
✨ Ceiling tiles were repaired.
✨ New vanities and sinks were installed in the kindergarten classroom and nurses’ room .
✨ The auditorium floors and stage were professionally waxed.
These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to providing our students with a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained school environment.

What a busy day! 🎉 We were excited to welcome families for evening paperwork drop-off, tours, and our Uniform Exchange, giving everyone several opportunities to get ready for the new school year. We were also thrilled to welcome two new families to our school community!

A huge thank you to our FSA for being here to greet families and answer questions, while our front office stayed busy collecting paperwork and making sure everything is in place for a smooth first day of school.

And a special shout-out to Mardin, Saniya, James, and John for helping Mrs. Shumny carry, sort, and deliver boxes of books and planners to every classroom. The countdown to the first day of school is on!

Summer break doesn't mean the work stops at Assumption Catholic School! After wrapping up an incredible five weeks of ACS Summer Camp, our school is already getting ready to welcome students back for another exciting school year.
While our students, teachers, and staff enjoy a well-deserved summer break, our dedicated maintenance team has been hard at work deep-cleaning classrooms and hallways to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment. We've also completed repairs and improvements to the school parking lot.
