Advocate, 9 April 1918, "The colored public school house in Perryville was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The origin of the blaze is unknown. There had been no fire in the building since last Friday and there is considerable mystery about the burning. It is understood there was no insurance on the building. Perryville will be without a public school until a new building can be erected. Mrs. E. E. Murrell, of Danville, is the teacher of the school."

Advocate, 5 September 1918, "Trustee A L Harmon is arranging to have a new colored school building erected on the lot recently purchased in the west end of town. The old building was destroyed by fire last spring."
