What It Means to Be a Perryton Ranger Football Captain. Congratulations to these young men that have been selected as the captains of the 2026 Perryton Football Team.
1. A Captain Represents More Than Himself
A captain understands that when he puts on the Perryton Ranger uniform, he represents:
* His teammates
* His coaches
* His family
* Perryton High School
* The Perryton community
* The Rangers who wore the uniform before him
* The Rangers who will wear it after him
Being a captain means carrying the standard of Perryton Rangers Football wherever you go.
2. Captains Lead by Example
Leadership isn’t just about what you say. It is about what your teammates see you do.
A Ranger captain:
* Gets to practice early.
* Works hard when nobody is watching.
* Finishes drills.
* Takes coaching.
* Does the little things correctly.
* Gives maximum effort.
* Takes care of his body and preparation.
* Is dependable.
* Never asks a teammate to do something he isn’t willing to do himself.
Your teammates should know what the standard is by watching you live it.
3. Captains Hold the Team Accountable
A captain doesn’t allow the standard to drop.
That means having the courage to tell a teammate:
“That’s not who we are.”
Accountability isn’t about embarrassing someone or acting superior. It’s about caring enough about your teammates and your program to demand better.
A captain holds himself accountable first.
4. Captains Serve Their Teammates
Leadership is service.
The best captain isn’t necessarily the loudest player in the locker room. He’s the player who asks:
“What does my team need from me today?”
Sometimes that’s encouragement.
Sometimes it’s toughness.
Sometimes it’s bringing energy.
Sometimes it’s listening.
Sometimes it’s stepping up and saying something difficult.
A captain makes his teammates better.
5. Captains Control the Standard
There will be good days and bad days.
There will be wins and losses.
There will be injuries, mistakes, adversity, criticism and disappointment.
The captain’s job is to help keep the team emotionally steady.
Don’t get too high. Don’t get too low. Stay committed to the standard.
6. Captains Protect the Culture
Culture is what happens when the coaches aren’t standing next to you.
A captain protects the culture by refusing to tolerate:
* Selfishness
* Excuses
* Disrespect
* Poor effort
* Negative attitudes
* Division within the team
* Cutting corners
* Blaming others
Instead, captains promote:
Trust.
Discipline.
Accountability.
Brotherhood.
Effort.
Respect.
Pride.
7. Captains Represent Perryton With Class
A Ranger captain understands that leadership doesn’t stop when practice ends.
How you act in the classroom, hallway, community, social media, restaurants, stores and on the road matters.
You don’t stop being a Ranger when you take off your helmet.
8. Captains Have Courage
Leadership requires courage.
Courage to:
* Speak up.
* Admit when you’re wrong.
* Challenge a teammate.
* Accept criticism.
* Stand alone when necessary.
* Do what is right instead of what is popular.
* Keep believing when things aren’t going your way.
A captain doesn’t follow the crowd.
A captain helps lead the crowd.
9. Captains Leave a Legacy
Every captain eventually plays his last game.
What matters then isn’t just the statistics, wins or individual awards.
The question becomes:
“What did you leave behind?”
Did you make the program better?
Did younger players learn from you?
Did your teammates trust you?
Did you raise the standard?
Did you represent Perryton the right way?
Did you leave the jersey in a better place than you found it?
That’s a captain’s legacy.
