🎓 Big news for our MRI program! Owens Community College's Magnetic Resonance Imaging program just earned an eight-year re-accreditation from JRCERT, the maximum term the agency grants. We're still the only Associate Degree MRI program in the country with this accreditation. 🏆

Huge congrats to program chair Suellen Barnum and the whole MRI team on nearly a year of work to make this happen! 👏

Congratulations to the Owens faculty honored at this year's State of the College address 🖤❤️

Owens President Dr. Dione D. Somerville and Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) President and CEO Avi Zaffini presented the awards, pictured here with the honorees.

Jen Hazel, professor of Humanities and Director of Assessment and Learning, received the Presidential Teaching Award for her innovative, student-centered approach to teaching through AI integration, experiential learning and community engagement. She was previously named a Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction honoree by the American Association of Community Colleges in 2022 and currently co-chairs The BIG Read.

Owens also introduced its first-ever Adjunct Faculty Roll of Distinction, honoring adjunct faculty members who go above and beyond for students. This year's inaugural awardees are:

President Dr. Dione D. Somerville delivered her annual State of the College address on Monday, highlighting progress in student success, workforce development and institutional improvement while introducing a new initiative: Owens Has Heart 🖤❤️

Keynote speaker Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of the Arkansas College of Health Education and former president of Clark State College, put it best: "Owens stands among the top community colleges in Ohio if not the country."

From the launch of EAB Navigate360 to a spot in the U.S. Department of Labor's new Earn and Learn initiative to faculty awards honoring outstanding teaching, there's a lot to celebrate as we head into the 2026-27 academic year.
