We had a special visitor today! Luna’s Uncle Dan is writing a children’s book called The Arm Chair Project. It’s a book about how a boy gets help using a 3D printer to print a prosthetic arm for his mom. Dan’s own amazing mom lived her whole life without part of her arm, but she didn’t let it slow her down. Many people are using 3D printers to use recycled materials (like school chairs) to make prosthetic arms for kids. It’s an incredibly affordable option! The kids asked amazing questions and were excited to help me write a review for his book! (Hint: We give it 5 stars!)

Color Day Celebration! 🌈

We made name rainbows to hang above our desks, read a story called Elmer (a patchwork, colorful elephant that just wants to be gray), worked on our fine motor skills in some small groups (to be continued on Monday) and finished with a picnic of colorful snacks! What a fun way to end our color unit!

Today we played “Mix and Fix” to order numbers from 0-5. Then, students used linking cubes to build towers for each number. We noticed the towers were like steps as each number became one more than the last. Linking the cubes together and breaking them apart was great fine motor practice!

Today in math, students were excited to get their math toolkits! These kits contain supplies that help us with our math learning. After a few minutes of free exploration, students played a quick game of Birthday Candles. For this game, they rolled a 6-sided die and either counted the dots or subitized (recognized the dot configuration automatically). Then they added or subtracted candles from their cake to match the die.
