So many great things and wonderful opportunities happening at ISD186!!

BEST SCHOOL IN THE BRAINERD LAKES AREA........AGAIN!!!

Pequot Lakes High School has been voted the best school in the Brainerd Lakes Area for 2025 after winning this award in 2018.

We are grateful for the support of our parents, students, community, and staff. So many great things happening here in Pequot Lakes, it really is an exciting time to be a Patriot.

Beyond the accolades that come with success in activities, beyond the great facilities and the exciting new spaces on the way, and beyond the great staff we have working with our students; we are blessed to have great students who are proud of their school and the experience they have in this space. We are proud of the culture of success that our students demonstrate as they continually amaze us with their achievements. The support of parents and the community is humbling and a continuous reminder that this award is the result of the efforts of MANY.

Thanks again to everyone for your support. GO Patriots!!!

PL District Families - please be watching your emails for important Back to School safety information, open house times, and cell phone policy updates.

Multiple emails have been sent out and I know that sometimes they can get lost in the inbox or get missed on accident. These emails have information that you need to be aware of.

I am thankful for the diligent and dedicated work our administration and staff have been putting in to increase our children's safety on campus.

We have recently started a communications committee to improve our district communications to not only our connected households but also those in our community that may not be directly connected to our school via students or activities.

The newsletter will also be distributed locally to area businesses so those not on social media or receiving district emails can have access as well.

I’m sharing the suggested district policy update for the district’s dress code. You will see from the last board meeting recording that I do not fully agree with what is being suggested. The language I am instead proposing and asking my fellow board members to consider is this (from the suggested MN school board assoc. sample policy):

“Clothing must cover from one armpit across to the other armpit, down to approximately 3 to 4 inches on the upper thigh.”

I also gave each board member a print out of what that looks like. (Posting in comments)

I would like to encourage you if you have any opinion on the updated school district dress code policy to please reach out.

Monday January 8th will be the second reading of the policy. Three readings take place before the board votes.

Edit: note that a majority of the proposed changes are due to State mandated language. The section I am referring to is a section our district has control within.

Reflecting on this first year of serving you as a member of your ISD186 School Board. I can say it has definitely felt like a fire hose at times with so much to learn!

Pequot Lakes School District truly has a supportive Community- as we see month after month with the many donations our community gives to school programs and all the volunteers that step up to serve.

In 2023 I participated in negations of union contracts, expanded my knowledge of school Financing (did you know ISD186 is currently in the bottom 10 of districts in the state for per student funding), experienced a bond referendum from the board table side and navigating new state mandates and their impact on our district.

2024 will start with review of our community survey regarding the referendum, deciding next steps (if any) on the referendum, and policy updates (currently we have done reading one of the school dress code policy - please watch last meeting if you want to see the proposed language changes).

As always, I am grateful to serve you. I will continue to strive to serve our district to the best of my ability and always be available to hear stakeholders questions and concerns.
