James E. Shadid: Returning Home to Lead Bradley University

Some leadership journeys come full circle. For James E. Shadid, becoming the 13th president of Bradley University was more than a career milestone—it was an opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape his future.

From his early days as a Bradley student and baseball player to a distinguished career in law and the judiciary, Shadid brings a leadership philosophy rooted in service, collaboration, and purposeful decision-making.

Under his leadership, Bradley is advancing its “One Bradley” approach, placing students at the center of institutional decisions. With a focus on experiential learning, academic innovation, stronger industry partnerships, and an enhanced student experience, the university is preparing learners for opportunities in a rapidly changing world.

As Shadid puts it, “Leadership begins with service. My responsibility is to leave Bradley stronger than I found it and ensure today’s students have even greater opportunities than I did.”

Discover how James E. Shadid is shaping Bradley University’s future while honoring its legacy of educational excellence.
